As a husband and as a father, Pankaj Kapur has seen his share of ups and downs. Let's throw some light on his love life.
Before making his debut on the big screen, Pankaj Kapur was making name for himself in the world of theatre. He was still in the National School of Drama when this creative man met another creative soul, Neelima Azeem. Neelima was pursuing her dream of becoming a dancer when she started dating Pankaj Kapur. She was training under Birju Maharaj and wanted to become a professional Kathak dancer. It all started in 1974 when the young couple fell irrevocably in love with each other. The level of their attraction was so high that in 1975, a 21-year-old Pankaj Kapur decided to marry a 16-year-old Neelima Azeem.
The couple welcomed their only child, Shahid Kapoor in 1981. Things were going good but soon after Shahid's birth, it all started changing. Pankaj and Neelima's differences rose to such an extent that the couple got divorced in 1984.

It wasn't one of those ugly divorces. They separated with grace. While Shahid stayed back with Neelima, Pankaj maintained his custody.
It was in the year 1986 when Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak came together for the movie, Naya Mausam. The movie never released but it served as the platform for building up of a friendship which was soon to become into their 'forever'. Before meeting Pankaj, Supriya had heard a lot of rumours, one of them was of him being an alcoholic. However, all the rumours were busted once she got to know him.
Supriya and Pankaj realised that they have a lot in common. Just like Pankaj, Supriya, too, had the baggage of a failed marriage. She got married impulsively when she was just 22 years old. After their divorces, both Pankaj and Supriya were looking for true love. Pankaj was always honest about his priorities. He told Supriya that his son meant the world to him which the kind lady gracefully accepted. Supriya recalls:
"I had no problems at all that he was married before. I met him with a clean slate. He had made it clear from the beginning that his son Shahid meant the most to him."
