Pankaj Oswal is an Austrailian-Swiss businessman who hails from India. The businessman was the chairman and sole founder of Burrup Holdings Limited, a Perth-based company. The man is a billionaire with a net worth exceeding 3 billion US dollars. He is married to Radhika Oswal, and they share two beautiful daughters, Vasundhara and Ridi. While the family often maintains their privacy by staying away from the limelight, Pankaj once became the talk of the town for allegedly suing the 'School of the Kings', Le Rosey.
Le Rosey is one of the most exclusive and expensive schools in the world. Located in Switzerland, the school is home to some of the wealthiest students from around the globe. However, while there are no notable Indian alumni of the school, the 2020 controversy surrounding Radhika and Pankaj Oswal's daughter shook the foundation of the school's anti-bullying policy for a while. The school, which often remains unknown to the commoners, made headlines after Pankaj Oswal sued the school for harassment. It was back in May 2020 when Pankaj and Radhika claimed that their daughter was bullied at school.
According to reports, the couple had sent their daughter to Le Rosey, but soon after, the parents accused the elitist school of failing to protect their daughter from bullying, which ultimately led to serious cyber harassment of the young teen. The couple claim their daughter suffered from anxiety attacks and insomnia as a result of the alleged bullying. However, the couple had not clarified whether it was Vasundhara or Ridi. According to the billionaires, following several bullying incidents against their daughter, they raised their concerns. However, the school's management remained unwilling to take any action. Talking about the same, Radhika Oswal stated:
"We are disappointed and appalled at the treatment that has been given to our daughter by an institute, and the faculty that has failed miserably to uphold its own code of conduct. The values that the institute ostensibly imparts pertaining to 'respect' and 'physical integrity' as well as for the 'religious, philosophical and political convictions’ of students, have been made a mockery of, and are at this point nothing but marketing whitewash! They showed no willingness to act or even acknowledge that there was an issue, while the bullying meanwhile escalated into systematic harassment and cyberbullying."
Once the lawsuit was filed, Le Rosey cancelled the bullies' re-enrolment for the following academic year. However, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement, and the Oswals decided to take the school to court. The parents had demanded a public apology for their daughter and wanted to be assured that the school would uphold its own supposedly high standards. Radhika Oswal, in a conversation with a media agency, once stated:
"It is unfortunate that we have heard of other Indian students being taunted for their ethnicity, shockingly even by a member of the faculty. It is sadder that many Indian parents continue the education of their children in this school, despite their children being told disrespectful and racist remarks such as that India is the dustbin of Asia, and that Indian parents look like sweepers. It is shocking when children are taunted and made fun of multiple times on their decision to be vegetarian, their culture and their religious beliefs, but even sadder when parents do not take action."
Institut Le Rosey, commonly referred to as Le Rosey, is a private boarding school located in Rolle, a municipality in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. It is among the top 10 international schools in Switzerland and is featured in The Schools Index, ranking among the world's best 150 private schools. The Institut Le Rosey was founded in 1880 by Paul-Émile Carnal on the site of the 14th-century Château du Rosey. The school also has a second campus in the ski resort village of Gstaad in the Canton of Bern, where the faculty, staff and students reside during the months of January through March.
