Pankaj Udhas was born on May 17, 1951, in a small village named Charakhadi in Gujarat's Jetpur. He was the youngest child of his parents, Keshubhai Udhas and Jituben Udhas, who were quite close to music. Despite being a government employee, Keshubhai Udhas used to play the sitar, while his wife, Jituben Udhas had a great passion for singing. Both his elder brothers, Manhar Udhas and Nirmal Udhas went on to become famous singers.
With so much inclination towards music in their family, it was evident that Pankaj would also do something in the field of music. However, no one knew that the youngest child would go on to become the biggest name in the entire family. Pankaj Udhas not only made a timeless mark in Bollywood with his soulful tracks but was also one of the few singers who introduced ghazals to the masses.

On the professional front, Pankaj Udhas saw a lot of success and was a constant name in media headlines, courtesy of his successful songs. Despite being such a legendary figure, he always preferred to keep his personal life private. For the unversed, Pankaj tied the knot with the love of his life, Farida on February 11, 1982. The couple welcomed two daughters, Nayaab and Reva.
Unfortunately, days after Pankaj Udhas and Farida's 42nd wedding anniversary, the ghazal maestro passed away at the age of 72 due to pancreatic cancer. The legendary singer is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Reva and Nayaab. It's impossible to understand the pain they're going through as they will carry it for the rest of their lives. Pankaj Udhas made his playback singing debut with the film, Kamna, in 1972 and after a few years, it was in 1980, when he released his first album, Aahat that brought him immense fame and recognition. In 1986, Pankaj sang the song, Chitthi Aayi Hai, for Mahesh Bhatt's film, Naam and the rest is history. In a career spanning more than four decades, Pankaj Udhas sang songs in a series of big-budget films and did a lot of live shows that helped him earn a good amount of money.
With his years of earnings, Pankaj Udhas managed to buy a residence worth crores, which is located at one of Mumbai's poshest areas, Peddar Road. The ghazal maestro named his residence, Hillside and lived there for most of his life with his wife and daughters. According to a report in Asianet News, Pankaj Udhas' luxurious mansion is worth over Rs. 25 crore.
For the unversed, Pankaj Udhas was also madly in love with expensive cars. As per multiple reports, he spent a lot of money on cars as, right from an early age, he was in love with swanky cars.
As per a report in Times Now Hindi, Pankaj was a proud owner of expensive cars like Audi A6 (Rs. 62 lakhs), Mitsubishi Lancer (Rs. 7 lakhs), Hyundai Santro (Rs. 4 lakh), and 1951 Model Fiat, which was one of the most expensive cars in the country back in the 50s.
For the unversed, Pankaj Udhas started singing by the age of 7, and when he was 11, his elder brother gave him a chance to sing at an event. The 11-year-old youngster sang the song, Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, and it left everyone stunned. For his soulful singing performance, he received Rs. 51, and since then, he has never looked back. In the coming years, Pankaj Udhas earned thousands of lakhs for performing at live events and singing in Bollywood films.
With his years of earnings from films, live events, brand collaborations and much more, Pankaj Udhas built a solid wealth for his family. Although the exact number is not disclosed in the public domain, but as per a Times Now News report, Pankaj Udhas has an estimated net worth of 1.5 million USD in 2023, which, if converted to INR, is around Rs. 15 crore.

It wasn't easy for Pankaj Udhas to make a mark in Bollywood as legendary singers like Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Mohammed Aziz, Bappi Lahiri, and so many others were ruling the industry with their exceptional work. Not only this but even in the world of ghazals, Anup Jalota and Jagjit Singh were winning hearts. Despite all this competition, Pankaj Udhas created a space for himself, and some of his songs even became a part of India's pop culture.
Another beautiful thing about Pankaj Udhas was the way he used to appreciate his contemporaries. At a time when singers weren't used to shower praises on their competitors, Pankaj Udhas was so self-secured that he never demeaned anyone. Once, in an old interview, he even lauded Jagjit Singh, who was considered his biggest competition by many people. Pankaj Udhas was much more than just an incredible singer, as he was a graceful human, who kept his poise intact till the end of time.
