Parasakthi, the historical political action drama starring Sivakarthikeyan, was one of the most anticipated films of 2026. Although, there was immense buzz, the film underperformed at the box office. Alongside Sivakarthikeyan, the Tamil film also stars, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, Atharvaa and more. The film was released in theatres on January 10, 2026. Parasakthi is set in Tamil Nadu during the 1960s and revolves around 'Chezhiyan' (played by Sivakarthikeyan). According to the latest reports, the film is gearing up for its digital premiere.
Fans of Sivakarthikeyan, who missed watching Parasakthi in theatres, can now mark their calendars. Earlier, reports suggested that Parasakthi will be released on OTT, 6 to 8 weeks after its theatrical release. But now, according to the latest reports, the audience who missed watching it on big screens would not have to wait much as the historical political action drama is set to premiere on February 7, 2026, on ZEE5.

The historical political action drama, featuring Sivakarthikeyan in a lead role, is set against the backdrop of 1960s Tamil Nadu, a period widely known for its intense debates over language imposition, regional identity and more. The story of Parasakthi revolves around 'Chezhiyan', a hardworking railway worker, whose only world is his family. On the other hand, his brother, 'Chinnadurai' (played by Atharvaa), is politically active and takes part in college protests. Their lives are interwined as they engage in political conflicts.

Sivakarthikeyan is a celebrated actor of the South Indian film industry. He became an overnight sensation with his role in the film, Amaran. In the biographical action war film, Sivakarthikeyan shared screen space with Sai Pallavi. According to a report by Movies Singapore, Sivakarthikeyan allegedly earned a paycheque of Rs. 30 crore. Ravi Mohan, who played a negative role in the film, reportedly earned Rs. 16 crore. Atharvaa allegedly charged Rs. 2 crore for his role. Sreeleela, who was the female lead of the film, reportedly took home Rs. 1 crore. If the report is believed to be true, then it is clear that Sivakarthikeyan bagged the highest paycheque for his lead role in the historical political action drama.

For the uninitiated, Parasakthi is helmed by Sudha Kongara. In a press note, Sudha called Sivakarthikeyan the 'cornerstone of the film'. She also shared her working experience with the other cast members, including Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela. She was quoted as saying:

"Sivakarthikeyan has been the cornerstone of this film; his immediate commitment and the indelible characterisation he embodies will resonate deeply with audiences. Ravi Mohan's commanding screen presence emerges as one of Parasakthi's most potent elements, and I am profoundly grateful for his decision to join us. Atharvaa Murali's role ignited my excitement during scripting, but his extraordinary dedication has elevated the character far beyond my initial vision. Sreeleela, celebrated for her urban and offbeat portrayals, delivers something truly monumental here; her commitment breathes profound life into the character."
Soon after Parasakthi hit the theatres, cinephiles took to their X (formerly Twitter) handles and shared their reviews. Giving an overview, a user wrote, "#ParasakthiReview Overall: #ParasakthiCanada #Parasakthi Landmark film for @Siva_Kartikeyan 25. Sudha as a director, Siva as hero & every artist, including special cameos, made sure the audience understands the villain is ‘Language Imposition, Oppression against one’s fundamental rights’ and not any antagonist characters. 2nd half could have been executed a bit better, still, the core plot was conveyed brilliantly. Emotional Rollercoaster performance from everyone. GV Treat for Pongal."
