Patrick Swayze's younger brother, Sean Swayze, has passed away, and the cause of his death has finally been revealed. It was TMZ who confirmed the demise of the former teamster and obtained his death certificate. The news was further confirmed by his son.

Sean Swayze's demise was confirmed by TMZ on January 7, 2026 (ET). However, soon after, the teamster's son confirmed that his father had died days before the news broke out. Sean's son revealed to TMZ that the teamster had passed away on December 17, 2025. 

What did Patrick Swayze's younger brother, Sean Swayze, die of?

Ever since news of Sean Swayze broke, fans have been wondering what happened to the teamster. Well, TMZ also obtained the death certificate of the late star, which revealed the 63-year-old's cause of death. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, Sean "died of an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis brought on by cirrhosis of the liver." The death certificate confirmed the date of the star's demise as December 15, 2025, and also revealed that the informant was Sean's daughter, Cassie Swayze.

Who was Sean Swayze?

Sean Swayze was born on October 13, 1962, in Texas to Jesse Wayne Swayze and Yvonne Carnes. The death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office states that Sean had also served in the US Army. He was a widower. He worked as a teamster in the entertainment industry, with over three decades in the field and resided in Lancaster, Los Angeles. According to his death certificate, Sean was cremated on December 19, 2025. The funeral was handled by Valley of Peace Cremation and Burial.

Sean Swayze's cousin had previously shared a post for him

Earlier, Sean Swayze's cousin shared a picture of him on her social media account. Rachel Leon shared the heartbreaking news. The post featured Sean in a Dirty Dancing crawfish-themed T-shirt. She revealed that her daughter had come up with the design to honour Sean's late brother, Patrick Swayze. Sharing how full of life Sean was, Rachel penned:

"I'm heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today. This is a picture he took recently for us to promote the Dirty Dancing crawfish theme. My daughter, a marketing manager, came up with this idea to honor our late cousin, Patrick Swayze. We sent the T-shirts to Sean, who wore them proudly for us. He was always fun and full of life."

Rachel also noted how they were talking about Sean visiting them in Texas. However, unfortunately, fate had different plans. The actor is survived by his brother, Don Swayze and three children, Cassie, Kyle and Jesse Swayze. The note could further be read as:

"Just recently, we were talking about him coming down to Texas to spend time with us, and I was really looking forward to it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Don Swayze and his children, Cassie Swayze, Kyle Swayze and Jesse Swayze. We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time. Please know that we love you and are always here for you. Sean, I love you so much, and we will miss you dearly."
