Quentin Tarantino is as passionate about the film industry as one can be. So, when he says something about someone's acting and it's bad, it can feel like a knife twisting in one's chest. However, his recent comment has stirred an intense reaction from the netizens. But what did he really say that has sparked such a massive wave of backlash?
Quentin Tarantino appeared on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast and listed his twenty favourite movies. When discussing his number 5 pick, the filmmaker said he would give it to Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood. However, it was then that he shared a shocking opinion on Paul Dano's performance as twins, 'Paul' and 'Eli Sunday.' Quentin compared Paul's performance to Daniel Day-Lewis and called the actor a 'weak sauce'. He was quoted as saying:
"There Will Be Blood would stand a good chance at being no. 1 or 2 if it didn’t have a big, giant flaw in it … and the flaw is Paul Dano. Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, but it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister."

Quentin Tarantino is a man of solutions and gave his pitch for who should've played the role in place of Paul Dano. During the interaction, he commented that if it were up to him, he would have picked Austin Butler for the role of the 'Sunday' brothers, even though he was only 15 years old at the time of the film's release. He called Paul a 'weak and uninteresting' person. He was quoted as saying:
"Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. He's just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest fucking actor in SAG."

For the unversed, Quentin Tarantino was asked to share his top 20 films. However, no one expected the Kill Bill filmmaker to get lethal with his opinion about Paul Dano's work in the 2007 film, There Will Be Blood. The film even earned Paul a BAFTA nomination. However, during his recent appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast, Quentin made it clear he didn't love everything about the critically acclaimed film, calling out Dano's performance in particular.

Quentin Tarantino's biting remarks soon began circulating on social media, with many calling the celebrated director flat out wrong for his assessment of Paul Dano. Film critic, John Rocha responded to Quentin's remark on X and shared that the actor-filmmaker is immensely loved and exceptionally talented. However, his assessment of Paul is wrong. He was quoted as saying:

"Ya know, someday, film nerds are gonna have to stop worshipping this motor mouthed video store clerk and stop thinking that every opinion he has about film and acting comes from on high. Don't get me wrong. I love Tarantino's movies. He's a damn good director and an excellent writer (except for his obsession with the N word). BUT not every opinion he has is the gospel truth. He's wrong in his assessment of Dano here."
John Rocha further commented on how Quentin cast himself in some of his films, despite not being an actor. He called them the worst bit of his films as well. He even took a jab at Quentin's ranking of the films. Netizens also harshly criticised Quentin for his comments. A user penned, "I'm not the biggest fan of Dano either, but part of the point of TWBB is that DDL completely outmatches him...especially at the end when Daniel is at his weakest and craziest. There's only so much Dano SHOULD do in that role".
