Paul Dano And Zoe Kazan's Relationship, Met On Broadway, Played A Married Couple For Their 1st Film

Paul Dano is a renowned American actor who is known for his work in both independent and mainstream films. It has been more than 2 decades since he made his acting debut in the 2001 film, L.I.E., at age 16. However, it wasn't until 2006, when Paul played the role of ‘Dwayne Hoover’, a voluntarily mute teenager in the comedic drama, Little Miss Sunshine, that he came to greater attention. It is worth noting that, in addition to his on-screen acting chops, Paul Dano has performed on stage in several Broadway productions. Coming to Paul Dano's more recent works on the big screen, the actor was seen playing the role of ‘The Riddler' in the 2022 superhero film, The Batman.  

However, despite being such a well-known actor, Quentin Tarantino, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee, called Paul the “weakest fu**ing actor in SAG." Many of his colleagues instantly came to his defence, including Reese Witherspoon and Alec Baldwin, to name a few. Although Paul Dano himself didn't publicly comment on Quentin Tarantino's diss, he told Variety recently that he was "incredibly grateful that the world spoke up” for him. According to reports, Paul Dano and his partner, Zoe Kazan, met for the first time during the rehearsal of the play, Things We Want in early 2007. Directed by Ethan Hawke, the play debuted Off-Broadway on November 7 of the same year. Years later, in a 2012 interview with W Magazine, Zoe revealed that her first kiss with her husband was on stage. However, she claimed that it was a “totally different” experience from when they first kissed in real life. In her words: 

"Kissing in a movie or a play doesn't feel real – there's a remove. Even when Paul and I met five years ago, we were doing a play together and falling in love, and we kissed on stage before we had ever kissed in real life. When we did kiss in real life, it felt totally different."

Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan walked their first red carpet together after becoming a couple at the Come Back, Little Sheba afterparty. The event was reportedly held at Planet Hollywood in New York City on January 24, 2008. Pictures from the night show Zoe in a beautiful short dress, while Paul wore a classic black tuxedo over a crisp white shirt for the occasion.

On April 8, 2011, Paul Dano and his partner, Zoe Kazan, shared the screen for the first time in director, Kelly Reichardt's Western drama, Meek Cutoff. Reportedly, in the film, Paul and Zoe played the role of a married couple who travelled to the Oregon Trail together in 1845.

On January 18, 2014, Paul Dano and his partner, Zoe Kazan, attended the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ceremony was held at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. During the event, Paul won an award for best cast in a motion picture for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). In addition to Paul, the film's cast includes renowned actors such as Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, and Edward Norton, among others. In the following years, Paul and Zoe attended many more award ceremonies and events together, including the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and the Golden Globe Awards in 2016.

Pal Dano and Zoe Kazan are a true power couple, even when it comes to their work life. This is evidenced by their co-writing the script for the drama, Wildlife, in 2018. The film, marking Paul Dano's directorial debut, starred recognisable names like Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan. Later, during an interview with Flood Magazine, Paul gave everyone a glimpse into the writing process. He stated that he and Zoe passed the script back and forth for quite a few years during the editing process. Paul claimed that since it was his first time trying to write, he “definitely needed the help" from Zoe.

Paul Dano shocked everyone when, during an October 2018 appearance on The Tonight Show, he revealed that he and his longtime partner, Zoe Kazan, have welcomed their first child together. He added that their child was a daughter who was born eight weeks prior to his appearance on the late-night talk show. While Paul mentioned being "so tired” and "so in love” with his daughter, neither he nor Zoe has publicly shared their baby girl's name.

While Paul Dano was the first to confirm the birth of their first child, this time around, it was Zoe Kazan to officially announce the good news. During her appearance on Today to promote her then-new film, She Said, Zoe confirmed that she and Paul had become parents for a second time. She said that their second child was born “three weeks ago" on the episode which aired on November 14, 2022.  

Fast-forward to 2026, and while Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan still haven't tied the knot, their relationship seems as strong as ever.
