According to his family's statement to The Athletes, Paul passed away peacefully at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The ex-NFL Commissioner had previously been public about his battle with Parkinson's disease. He disclosed his diagnosis in a 2021 interview with USA Today ahead of his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

Paul Tagliabue is survived by his wife, Chandler 'Chan' Minter, and their two children. Paul is married to Chandler 'Chan' Minter. Paul and Chandler were married on August 28, 1965, and remained together until his death on November 10, 2025. Paul was reported to be from Milledgeville, Georgia, while her familial roots are unknown. Charles met Paul Tagliabue while he was in law school. The couple dated for some time (the exact period is unknown), married, and became parents to two lovely children, a son named Drew and a daughter named Emily.

Paul Tagliabue served as the Commissioner of the National Football League (NFL) for 17 years, from 1989 to 2006, and is remembered for overseeing a period of significant growth and expansion. Under Paul Tagliabue, the NFL grew from 28 to 32 teams with the addition of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens (relocated from Cleveland), and Houston Texans. He also negotiated lucrative television contracts, including a USD 3.6 billion deal that was the largest in TV history at the time, and oversaw the construction of 20 new stadiums.

Paul helped usher in an era of labour peace, with no player lockouts during his tenure, and negotiated a collective bargaining agreement that introduced free agency and the salary cap. Before Paul's NFL stint, he graduated from Georgetown University, where he was captain of the basketball team and his class president. He received his law degree from New York University School of Law. Now, following his death, the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, who succeeded Paul, mourned his loss. Roger stated:
