The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 finale has brought our beloved heroes back to 'Camp Half-Blood' for a final showdown with Luke and his followers. The finale offers plenty of action and drama. However, there are enough questionable choices as well. So, after 'Golden Fleece' in Episode 7: I Go Down With the Ship, 'Clarisse' and others are back at camp, but a major challenge already awaits them. However, this isn't unexpected, given the preview for The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well.
The story quickly throws characters into action, especially when 'Sally' arrives at the camp with the news that 'Kornos's' followers and monsters are attacking. 'Clarrise' has to carry 'Golden Fleece' on foot, and 'Percy' and his friends rush to help, leading to an emotional moment with 'Sally'. Nonetheless, despite teasing its big battle last week, the finale still delivers some surprises. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 ended with a large battle outside 'Camp Half-Blood', which is a bold choice that mostly works. The finale pays off the tension built throughout the season and delivers a bigger climax than book readers had anticipated. While the show preserved the major key points, it changed how things unfold. The battle quickly removes 'Tantalus', who is hit by a fireball just as he thinks the Gods have lifted his curse, making his exit shocking and more comic than in the book.
Meanwhile, 'Clarisse' runs towards the camp with fireballs and arrows chasing behind her. The finale also reveals 'Luke's' true plan, that is to revive 'Thalia' with the 'Golden Fleece' so she can fulfil the 'Great Prophecy' instead of 'Percy', while he rallies on the demigods at the Big House with a heart-touching speech. Walker Scobell shines through as 'Percy' is placed back at the centre, impressing even 'Dionysus' with his leadership.
Things further get intense as 'Clarisse' realises that the campers escorting her are actually working for 'Luke'. While it is an effective twist, it lacks a strong emotional impact. The battle also leads 'Clarisse' to realise she has formed a real friendship with 'Percy', 'Annabeth' and 'Grover'. Making the battle one of the most epic, emotional, and action-packed sequences so far.

The battle at 'Camp Half-Blood' is exciting and well-staged. However, it's not completely flawless. 'Annabeth' and 'Grover' rescue 'Clarisse' from the traitors and race towards 'Thalia's' tree in a chariot. Meanwhile, 'Luke' lets the 'Laistrygonians' into the camp. 'Percy's' entry becomes one of the strongest moments as he arrives with the demigods at the battle.
As the battle intensifies near 'Thalia's' tree, 'Percy' and 'Luke' lock horns again, and the former almost loses. 'Annabeth' is struck by an arrow. However, that sense of real danger remains missing for major characters. Death and injuries feel lighter than they should, resulting in a thrilling but emotionally incomplete finale. The conflicts end when 'Percy' gives the 'Golden Fleece' to 'Clarisse', who wraps it around a spear and throws it at 'Thalia's' tree.
'Annabeth's' suspicions are confirmed when 'Thalia' emerges, bringing more violence with her, as she shouts 'NEVER!'. She unleashes lightning across the field, knocking 'Percy' unconscious and stopping 'Luke's' attack. An unconscious 'Percy' speaks with 'Poseidon', who confirms the war is coming and assigns 'Tyson' the task of forging weapons. He also offers 'Percy' words of wisdom about fate and love, pushing the show into a slower theme.

The makers of the series have kept the essence of the series as close to Rick Riordan's books as possible, even when changes are made. They have ensured that the changes only improve the story or make sense for a TV adaptation. However, the scepticism around 'Thalia' in the Season 2 finale has remained evident. After 'Percy' wakes up, 'Chiron' admits to being dishonest about 'Thalia's' past. In the book, 'Thalia' is turned into a tree because she is dying.
In the series, 'Zeus' kills the 'Furies' before they can harm her, and then turns 'Thalia' into a tree because she refuses to accept her role as his daughter. The change significantly alters 'Thalia's' relationship with 'Zeus', giving her a stronger reason to resent the Gods, similar to 'Luke'. This backstory further suggests that 'Thalia's' story will lead to her joining the Hunters of Artemis and to her alleged presence in Season 3.
The final battle at 'Camp Half-Blood' mostly works but falls short emotionally in some areas. While the improvised angles keep even the book readers hooked, there are moments when things seem to disconnect. Character interactions have helped cover the flaws to an extent, yet some major events lack proper weight. The story has not explored certain topics, including 'Luke's' hesitation about demigods killing other demigods. Additionally, the aftermath of the battle is barely acknowledged.

'Clarisse's' betrayal doesn't hit as hard as fans had hoped, and the demigods who betray her also lack emotional impact. The audience finds the finale surprising, but it lacks emotional involvement. While others feel the changes to 'Thalia's' storyline are concerning, the other sect feels it will add interesting themes and conversations moving forward.
