Lane Kiffin has finally made a decision after keeping everyone waiting to see what his next move will entail. After wearing the hat of the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels from 2020, Lane finally made the decision to leave the team after a spectacular Egg Bowl victory. Ole Miss had tried their best to retain him; however, as Lane is leaving, they have some big shoes to fill. And as per reports, assistant coach, Pete Golding is up for a promotion as head coach of Ole Miss very soon.
As the College Football Playoff looms ahead, Ole Miss tried their best to keep Lane Kiffin until at least the season was over. However, soon after the Egg Bowl victory, the future of Lane with the Ole Miss Rebels was in doubt. LSU and Florida both had tried to poach him. Now that Lane Kiffin is joining LSU, Ole Miss is left in a pickle trying to find a new head coach. However, if reports are to be believed, Pete Golding, who had evolved the team for the better as the defensive coordinator, will be promoted to the position of head coach of Ole Miss soon.

The Ole Miss Rebels' website highlights all the skills and contributions Pete has made to the team since joining in 2023. The portal says that, in 2024, Pete organised 'one of the best all-around defenses in Ole Miss history'. Pete's previous positions with Alabama and UTSA have also been nothing short of incredible. Highlighting an achievement of Pete and how his strategies have helped Ole Miss, the website said about him:
"With the Rebels in 2023, Golding’s new defensive scheme helped propel Ole Miss to its first 11-win season in program history. The Landshark D led the SEC and ranked fifth in the FBS in turnover margin at +11 and stifled SEC defenses, holding Arkansas (288), Auburn (275) and Vanderbilt (229) to fewer than 300 total yards in consecutive games -- the first such streak at Ole Miss within the same season since 1993."
As per an On3 report, Lane Kiffin had asked his Ole Miss Rebels staff to join him at LSU. Many of them are considering the move and might be seen cheering for the other team very soon. LSU is also reportedly all set to conduct a press conference to officially announce that Lane Kiffin is taking over as head coach. However, Pete Golding isn't keen on joining LSU with Lane. Initial reports claimed that Pete might be made the interim head coach for the playoffs, but new information suggests he is being considered for a higher, permanent position with Ole Miss.

Not a lot of information about the personal life of Pete Golding has been made public. Especially reports about his family life are scarce. Pete was born in Louisiana, US, on February 8, 1984. He is also an alumnus of Delta State University and played as a safety for the Delta State Statesman. Then Pete began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the same team he had represented. Following this, in Tusculum, he took on the position of defensive coordinator.
It is also worth noting that Lane Kiffin has been trolled and called names for his supposed job-hopping. The former Ole Miss Rebels coach has a reputation for not committing to teams for the long term. He was even called a derogatory term by a reporter because of this. However, looking at Pete Golding's career graph, it is evident that he has not stayed with most teams for more than a year either. His longest stint was with Alabama, where he served as the DC from 2018 to 2022. Meanwhile, Lane Kiffin shared his decision to leave Ole Miss and join LSU with a lengthy social media post. An excerpt from his note read:
"After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU...While I am looking forward to a new start with a unique opportunity at LSU, I will forever cherish the incredible six years I spent at Ole Miss and will be rooting hard for the team to complete their mission and bring a championship to Oxford."
