The much-talked-about shares of Lenskart made their debut in the stock market on November 10, 2025, recovered all its losses and crossed its IPO pricing. Ever since the IPO listing, Lenskart’s co-founder, Peyush Bansal, has been leading the headlines, and his 15-year entrepreneurial journey has caught public attention.

Many have seen Peyush Bansal on the panel of the reality show, Shark Tank India. The ever-smiling Peyush is known for his calm and composed nature. However, his journey as a successful entrepreneur was not easy. He left his high-paying job to start his business, which he was not even certain about.
Born in 1986 in Delhi, Peyush Bansal completed his initial schooling at Don Bosco School. He prepared for IIT, but didn’t make it through. He later went to Canada to study electrical engineering at McGill University.

Despite coming from a non-business family, Peyush always wished to be a businessman, and his parents supported him in the same. After completing his engineering, Peyush landed his first job at Microsoft, a tech giant in the USA. It was a dream job for people, but Peyush wasn’t keen and quit the company in a year. He came back to India and started looking to start something of his own.

While pursuing a diploma in entrepreneurship from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Peyush came up with his first startup in 2007 called SearchMycampus. The startup was an online portal to help students search for various issues related to jobs, housing, coaching, internships, transportation, books, etc. He went on to launch a couple of startups like Valyoo Technologies, Flyrr, and they all ran quite well.
Peyush Bansal co-founded Lenskart with his friends, Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi, in 2010. Peyush came across the statistics of blind people and realised that a very small number of people were wearing glasses. He envisioned providing smart eyeglasses to people. Speaking about his business venture, Peyush recalled his first customer and said:
“Fifteen years ago, I didn’t dream of ringing a bell. I just wanted to solve one simple, human problem — that millions of people in India couldn’t see clearly. A teacher who cried softly after putting on her new glasses, said, ‘I didn’t know the world still looked this bright.’ That moment still gives me goosebumps.”
Once on Shark Tank India, Peyush recalled his entrepreneurial journey and revealed that in the beginning, his only concern was to have enough sales to be able to afford everyone’s salary:
“My entrepreneurship journey started almost 12-13 years back. I started from my garage. Car bahar nikaali aur usko office mein convert kiya. For almost four years of my entrepreneurship journey, there was no question of money, investment or equity. I didn't even know about these things, to be honest.”

Peyush Bansal is married to Nidhi Mittal. She married Peyush in 2011, a year after he began his dream company, Lenskart. Details about whether Niddhi was Peyush’s girlfriend and whether they had a love or arranged marriage are private. Since Peyush likes to keep his personal life away from the spotlight, there is hardly any information about the details of his love story.
However, it is worth noting that Niddhi has been Peyush’s greatest strength throughout his entrepreneurial journey. She supported him through all the highs and lows of life. Nidhi is a former media professional and has worked with India Today and The Pioneer. She is currently the chairperson of Lenskart Foundation and founded BoostNet. The couple has a son named, Ivaan.
In 2022, Shark Tank India’s judges joined host Ranvijay Singha for a virtual chat. During the conversation, Peyush said that his wife, Nidhi, tried a product by Auli, a skincare brand that Namita Thapar invested in, and developed a rash. Hearing this, the Emcure Pharmaceuticals executive director, Namita Thapar, jokingly said:
“Maine bola ki yeh rash Auli se nahi, Peyush se hua hai because mere poore khandaan ne uske products try kiya hai, kisi ko kuch nahi hua hai. I said, ‘Peyush se door raho, Auli se door mat raho’.”

Peyush has definitely built his business venture and taken it to greater heights, but it was his wife, Nidhi Mittal, who stood like a pillar of strength for him.
