2025 truly appears to be a doomed year. Among the many artists we lost this year, 2025, Piyush Pandey was one of them. For the unversed, Piyush was the creative genius behind some iconic Indian ad campaigns. Piyush’s death has left his near and dear ones shattered. However, one video featuring Piyush’s niece, Ishitta Arun, at the funeral of the advertising legend went viral and drew heavy criticism online. Now, with a carousel of notes, Ishitta slammed trolls who criticised her for laughing during the sad moment.
On October 26, 2025, Ishitta Arun took to her Instagram Stories and shared a carousel of notes slamming the trolls who criticised her for smiling at Piyush Pandey’s funeral. In the first note, Ishitta mentioned that expressing grief should not be rigid like a script, and for a person like Piyush, who was a jolly soul, laughter while saying goodbye can never be disrespectful. The note can be read as:
"Grief isn't a single script. And when you're saying goodbye to a man who laughed louder than anyone else, remembering him through laughter isn't disrespect. It's continuity. It's muscle memory. It's knowing who he really was."

Hitting back at the trolls, Ishitta shared that the few seconds’ happy moment got twisted. Clarifying that she laughed, recalling a one-liner from the advertising legend, she wrote that if people had known him closely, there would have been no need for any explanation. Ishitta wrote:
"To the trolls who took time out of their very empty lives to twist a single second - what you saw was us laughing at his line. A line only he could deliver. If you had known him, even in passing, you wouldn't have needed this explained."

Reacting to the trolls, Ishitta added that grief for them can never be staged. She mentioned that they won’t mute memories to please others and want to remember the late advertising legend through laughter and courage. She concluded the note by requesting people to comment only after knowing the backstory.

Soon after the video featuring Ishitta Arun surfaced online, netizens rushed to the comment section. For the unversed, Piyush Pandey passed away on October 24, 2025, and the funeral took place the next day, on October 25, 2025. However, when Ishitta’s smiling video at Piyush’s funeral went viral, it left the internet divided. While some heavily criticised her action, others came to her defence. Trolling Ishitta, a user wrote, "Isiliye jyada paisa acha nhi hota, sab kha jata hai sabse pehle emotions." Another user commented, "What is the matter of happiness. Did you get the property?" A third user wrote, "Don't laugh in the graveyard, sister."

Backing Ishitta’s action, a user wrote, "For us, he was a celebrity; for his family, a 70-year-old grandpa who lived a full and beautiful life. It’s okay to smile, remembering him. But it’s not okay to troll anyone without reason. Let’s show kindness. May his soul rest in peace." Another user commented, "She is putting up a brave face, see the kohl-laced tear on her cheek, the parting for the soul isn’t easy either. Let them cherish his memories… kuch khas hai hum sabhi mein he only told us."
