Who Was Piyush Pandey's Wife? His Colleague Who Inspired His 'Googly Woogly Woosh' Line For Ponds

Indian ads blend emotions, storytelling, humour, and whatnot, and this technique is what makes some iconic ads linger in memory, even after decades. This technique of reworking ads was initiated by none other than Piyush Pandey, known as the father of Indian ads. Piyush was the Executive Chairman of Ogilvy India (formerly Ogilvy & Mather India), one of the country's most influential and culturally rooted ad agencies, which has produced iconic ads through its creative team under the leadership of Piyush Pandey, a Padma Shree recipient.

Piyush Pandey left a void in the hearts of his followers on October 24, 2025, when he passed away at the age of 70. Reportedly, he was suffering from an infection. Amid this, let's have a look at Piyush's personal life and who he was married to. Piyush is survived by his wife, Nita Pandey, and his eight siblings. While there is little information available about his siblings, let's know about his wife, Nita Pandey.

Piyush Pandey married Nita Joshi in 2000. Nita was a colleague of his at O & M, and they were both married before and parted ways with their former partners. "I even attended her first wedding. But when we met again after a long gap, we were both single."

While nothing much is known about Nita Pandey, the Telegraph report suggested that she has trained in hydrotherapy for dogs in the UK. She is also known for her advocacy on animal welfare. Piyush was super comfortable around his wife, and it could be seen by the fact that while conversing with Telegraph back in 2015, Piyush said that his mustache, which was trimmed for him, was only allowed to be trimmed by her, and also by his younger brother.

Piyush Pandey's wife, Nita Pandey inspired one of his famous lines for Ponds

Piyush Pandey's wife had been a constant source of inspiration for his creative force. She was not only his colleague but his inspiration as well. Talking to ETime's BrandEquity, Piyush Pandey said that Nita's storytelling actually provided him with creative insights. He also added that his idea of blending real-life observation into his work was inspired by his wife. If a Celeounge report is to be believed, the famous Ponds ad that carries the line 'Googly Woogly Woosh' was actually inspired by a sweet moment the couple shared. As per the report, the then-newlywed couple was sharing a cute moment on the balcony when Nita used the phrase, and it became iconic, thanks to Piyush's creative genius, which made it stay in our hearts, memories, and lips forever.

Do you know that Piyush Pandey worked as a tea tester?

From print to LM to slogans, Piyush Pandey was actually the 'Shakespeare of Indian ads'. Just like every other writer, he had a flair for expressing through words from a young age. Well, he also loved cricket and had a close friendship with cricketer Arun Lal. Well, not only this, he and his friend even started working as tea testers for TM & MC in Kolkata, and it was part of a pact that they made that no matter what, they would never work differently. After two years, he bade goodbye to this profession and also to cricket, as he felt he was not good enough except for beyond the Ranji Trophy. Sharing that cricket was in his blood, Piyush Pandey mentioned:

"For the last 10 years, I have worked on the IPL, Mumbai Indians and World Cup campaigns. Today at my age, I may not be able to play it but cricket is in my blood!"
