Pooja Bhatt rose to prominence as the most beautiful face in the 90s film industry. She has served some unmissable performances at the box office, including Sadak, Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi, Zakhm, Border, Junoon among others. Daughter of eminent filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja has always been at the helm of criticism, especially with her personal life. While she once grabbed eyeballs for getting a kiss from her father on the lips during a photoshoot, she has also fetched criticism over her failed marriage with Manish Makhija.
In a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Pooja Bhatt opened up about various anecdotes from her life. The actress mentioned that among other appreciation, she has frequently been questioned about her failed marriage. Pooja added that people often continue to ask her why she is unmarried, and they even asked her questions when she got married in the first place. In her words:
“People still ask me why are you not married. Why are you single? I said did I ask you why you’re still married? Don’t ask me why I’m still single. It’s as simple as that. When I got married, people had problems, when I ended my marriage, people still had problems and now that I’m single, people still have problems. This will always be there. The world will always have a problem and that’s okay.”

Well, Pooja Bhatt’s personal life has been far from perfect, and she has seen quite a few lows in her life. Moving further in the interaction, the diva talked about the key learnings she has got from all such experiences and remarked how any woman must always prioritise to become one’s own friend, before having a partner in life. She said:
“First, befriend yourself and understand who you are only then can you be a friend to somebody else, a lover to somebody else, a wife or a mother or anyone to somebody else. I think that’s also something that we have forgotten to do as women. We kind of so used to nurturing the world that we stopped nurturing ourselves. I think that we need to step back and nurture ourselves.”
Previously, during a press conference at an event, Pooja Bhatt recalled the tough time she endured post her broken marriage, where she sunk deep into the depths of alcoholism. She revealed that her marriage crumbled slowly, which is when she realised losing out on her femininity in a boring relationship. Pooja added that all the while, she got busy fulfilling the societal expectations out of her, neglecting her own needs and desires completely in the process.

In the same interaction, Pooja Bhatt revealed that after the bindings of a failed marriage, it was her addiction to alcohol that chained her yet again. She remarked using bottles of alcohol as a first-aid for her broken marriage. In her words:
“I used alcohol as a band aid, I was trapped and I was chained. First into being a good wife and then getting my gratification with a bottle. I asked myself what is the difference between a bad relationship and a bottle. I was using both to numb the pain. So, I learnt to deal with myself, my anguish and my emptiness and from that something magical emerged. I kicked the bottle and it has been seven years since I have been sober.”
