Poonam Dhillon met producer Ashok Thakeria at a Holi party hosted by their mutual friends, and the two instantly became friends. Poonam and Ashok’s friendship bloomed into love, and soon, they got married in 1988. The couple embraced parenthood with the arrival of their children, Anmol Thakeria, and a daughter, Paloma Thakeria.

Soon after her marriage, Poonam left the industry to take care of her home and children. Problems started cropping up in Poonam’s marriage as her husband, Ashok Thakeria, was always busy with work and rarely available to her. The final nail on the coffin was when Ashok had an extra-marital affair in 1994.

He would reportedly visit Mumbai regularly to meet Poonam, and she would also travel to Hong Kong. In 1997, Poonam and Ashok were officially granted a divorce, and Poonam was given the custody of their two children, Anmol and Paloma.
