For the unversed, it was back in 2011 when Poonam became famous overnight after she announced that she would strip if team India won the 2011 ICC World Cup. In a recent interview with Mirchi Plus' talk show, Mirchi Plus Hot Seat, Poonam Pandey opened up about the time when she announced that she would strip if team India won the ICC 2011 World Cup. The actress-model recalled the incident and shared what the situation was like in her house after team India won the World Cup, and all eyes were on her to fulfil the promise she had made.

While talking about her decision to strip if team India wins, Poonam Pandey honestly admitted that she had no clue about cricket, and neither had she known the name of any cricketer back then. The model added that her sole purpose for making that bold statement was to make it big. Opening up about the chaos that happened at her home after team India lifted the 2011 ICC World Cup trophy, Poonam said:

"Main 18 saal ki thi aur main sochri thi ki life mein kya karna hain. Maine dekha cricket chal raha hain. Wah beta. Puri India cricket dekhti hain. Poonam aapko cricket ka knowledge hain, bilkul nahin. Poonam aapko cricketers ka naam pata hain, bilkul nahin. Mujhe kuch nahin pata, lekin mujhe kuch karna hain. Chalo ek statement dete hain aur ye bada statement hain, India hill jaegi. Maine vo statement diya aur India jeet bhi gayi. Main darr gayi ki ab toh karna padega. Ab mere ghar pe drama chalu. Meri maa maar rahi hain, mere dad pareshan hain ki ye tune kya kiya."

Further, in the interview, Poonam Pandey admitted that she had created a big controversy with her statement, and she knows it now. However, she also highlighted the fact that it's formidable for an outsider like her to make a mark in the entertainment industry, as she has no connections there, which was why she made that bold statement in 2011. The actress shared her views and stated that she wants to try her best to make a name for herself in the film industry. Sharing details about the same, she stated:

"Main es baat ko swikaar karti hoon ki maine ek khaas controversy create ki hain. Maine apne beautiful logo ke leye kuch khaas kiya. Main apni sharto pe apni cheezein karna chahti hu. Main apna naam kamana chahti hu. Main ese chota, bada, large, medium, jaisa bhi ho, apna naam banaana chahti hu. Agar main fail hoti hu toh kal ko jakar main khud ko keh sakti hu ki Poonam tumne koshish toh ki thi."

In the end, Poonam Pandey also talked about her father and stated that he isn’t a big name in the film industry like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but for her, her daddy is bigger than the director. Opening up about the same, Poonam credited her father for supporting her and always having her back. She said:

"Tumne koshish karke logo ko kaam karne ka message toh diya. Aapne apni life mein cheezein ki, aap kisi khaas jagah nahin pahuche, hum haath-pair maar rahe hain. Hum bhaag rahe hain, hum cheezein karte haina life mein, kyuki mere papa Sanjay Leela Bhansali nahin hain, par unse bade hain kyuki unki vajah se Poonam Pandey yaha baithi hui hain."
