The sudden demise of rapper and alt-rock artist, Poorstacy has left fans grieving. However, it has also brought to light some old controversies surrounding his past. The 26-year-old musician was primarily known for blending emo, punk, and hip-hop influences. He reportedly died on November 29, 2025, after facing a medical emergency at a Boca Raton Hotel. Although TMZ reported that those close to him suspect he died by suicide, there is no official confirmation. Consequently, as tributes pour in for the rapper, the conversation has quickly moved towards a 2023 domestic violence case that left a major impact on his career.
Poorstacy's arrest in 2023 became a major talking point again after his death was announced. Previously, Clout Culture reported in May 2023 that Coral Springs Police Department's officers responded to a distress call from his girlfriend. She had claimed the then 24-year-old rapper harmed her during an argument. The conflict reportedly began after she found texts from other women on his phone that caused her violent outburst.

The police report stated that Poorstacy allegedly punched, slapped, and dragged her by her hair. Furthermore, the situation escalated when he threw a bassinet containing their one-month-old baby. The victim reportedly caught it during mid-fall, preventing their baby from hitting the tiled floor. Officers also documented claims that he threw a cage with a hamster, which struck the women, causing bruises.

According to police, when they arrived, Poorstacy barricaded himself inside the home before handing himself to them. He was arrested on the charges of battery and child neglect and booked at Broward County Main Jail. Later, arrest logs revealed that he was released on a $6,000 bond. The case brought widespread backlash to the rapper, with netizens arguing that the incident had derailed his career. In 2024, the musician took to his Instagram and revealed that all the charges against him had been dropped, and his death had brought the spotlight on the case once again.

While speculations are being made about the cause of Poorstacy's death, many fans are speculating whether the 2023 arrest and the following fallout are linked to his sudden death or not. However, there is no evidence to currently support his connection. Authorities have not released any information tying the domestic violence case to his medical emergency or any potential mental health struggles. Neither his family nor his management team commented on the rumours. Meanwhile, the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner has confirmed that Poorstacy's official cause of death remains under investigation amid the ongoing investigation.

Before the controversy marred his public image, Poorstacy was considered a rising star in the alt-rap and rock scene. He was a native of Palm Beach, Florida, and first gained momentum on SoundCloud before releasing his debut EP I Don't Care in 2019. His ability to blend various genres earned him comparisons to artists like XXXTentacion, My Chemical Romance, and The Kooks. Over the years, he released two studio albums, The Breakfast Club and Party at the Cemetery. He collaborated with prominent names such as Travis Barker, Iann Dior, and Bring Me the Horizon's Oli Sykes. His song, Darkest Night even appeared on the Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack, which earned a Grammy nomination in 2020.
