Prashant Tamang's Mortal Remains Reach Siliguri, Public Viewing Planned For Fans In Darjeeling

Indian Idol season 3 winner, Prashant Tamang tragically passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 43, leaving his huge fan following heartbroken. For those who do not know, Prashant had tried his luck in acting. He had appeared in the show, Pataal Lok season 2 and he was also a part of the upcoming film, Battle Of Galwan. Well, now the mortal remains of Prashant Tamang have reached his hometown.

Prashant Tamang’s mortal remains reached Bagdogra Airport

On the morning of January 12, 2026, the mortal remains of singer-actor, Prashant Tamang were brought to Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri. For the unversed, Prashant passed away in New Delhi. If reports are to be believed, preparations are being arranged for Prashant's mortal remains to reach Darjeeling. Reportedly, an IndiGo flight carrying his body departed from Delhi early in the morning and landed at Bagdogra. 

Reportedly, a public viewing has also been planned for Prashant Tamang, where fans will have the opportunity to pay their last tributes to the singer. At the airport multiple people had assembled to pay tribute to him. Some of them included Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief Anit Thapa. A while ago, PTI shared a video of the Bagdogra airport on their X (formerly Twitter) handle. With the same, they penned a long note, which can be read as:

"Mortal remains of 'Indian Idol 3' winner and actor Prashant Tamang, who died on Sunday following a cardiac arrest, reached Bagdogra Airport. Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Assistant Director BK Ghising says, Prashant Tamang is synonymous with Darjeeling. He took the name and fame of Darjeeling to the whole world. For this, Prashant Tamang's contribution is something we can never forget."

MP Raju Bista paid tribute to late Prashant Tamang

While talking to the media, MP Raju Bista spoke about Prashant Tamang’s tragic and unexpected death. He described his passing as an irreplaceable loss. He further stated that the entire nation is standing with Prashant’s family in this tough time. As quoted by News18, Raju Bista had shared:

"It is a great loss for us. Prashant Tamang did a great job with his singing and his talent as an artist. He united the Gorkha people through his work, and we will always remain indebted to him. The entire country stands with his family during this difficult time. He leaves behind a very young daughter. We will continue to stand by them."

Prashant Tamang’s wife, Geeta Thapa’s first statement after his death

For those who do not know, Prashant Tamang was married to flight attendant, Geeta Thapa. Reportedly, the two tied the knot in February 2011, and in 2022, they welcomed their first child- daughter, Ariah. Recently, Geeta Thapa opened up about her husband’s death and revealed that it was a natural death. In her words:

"It was a natural death. He passed away in his sleep. I was right beside him when it happened."

Prashant Tamang was a popular singer and actor. He rose to widespread fame after winning the reality show, Indian Idol season 3. Apart from singing, Prashant had also appeared in multiple Nepali movies. Later, he appeared in Paatal Lok season 2. Reportedly, Prashant completed the shoot of Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan before his passing. For the unversed, Prashant started his journey as a police constable in Kolkata.
