Prashant Tamang's Funeral, His Wife Looks Inconsolable As She Gives Him A Last Goodbye In Siliguri

Indian Idol 3 winner, Prashant Tamang, passed away in his sleep on January 11, 2026. The singer-actor was loved across the nation for his songs and his films. He has been part of Nepalese cinema and has also tried his hand in Hindi films. After his death, Prashant's funeral was held in Siliguri, Darjeeling. The singer passed away in his home in New Delhi, and his mortal remains were taken to Silguri for final rites.

Prashant Tamang's final rites

Prashant Tamang's last funeral was held in Siliguri, Darjeeling, on January 12, 2026. Several of his fans, family and friends attended his last procession. A video from his antim yatra circulated online. His wife, Geeta, who has been his strength, was seen breaking down. She looked inconsolable seeing her husband's mortal remains. But she gathers her strength as she bids him her last goodbye. In the same video, Prashant's four-year-old daughter also paid her last respect while her mother guided her.

Talking about Prashant's love story, he met Geeta Thapa during his trip to Dimapur, Nagaland, in 2010. She was a flight attendant for a prestigious airline, and Prashant was flying from the same airline. Geeta Thapa, also known as Martha Eli. The two became friends in their first meeting. She hails from Nagaland, and her family is in the Nagaland Police, as her father was a sub-inspector and her mother, a Deputy Inspector General in the LIC. 

Later, in 2011, Prashant Tamang and Geeta Thapa got married in Dimapur, Nagaland. However, they kept the wedding extremely secretive, since he was a renowned figure in Nepali cinema. The celebration was attended by close friends, relatives and well-wishers. After the wedding, Prashant announced that he is married and going to settle down in Darjeeling. In 2022, Prashant and Geet welcomed their first child, a baby girl.

Prashant Tamang's death

As per reports, Prashant Tamang passed away on January 11, 2026, at his New Delhi residence. As per family sources, Prashant passed away in his sleep. Raju Bista, who is the Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and National Spokesperson of BJP, expressed his condolences to the family. He recalled his journey and how he had left the Gorkha community in shock. He said:

"The untimely demise of Prashant Tamang, the popular singer and actor, has left the Gorkha community, along with the entire world of arts and music, stunned and heartbroken. During the Indian Idol competition, he succeeded in instilling a sense of unity and pride not only in the entire Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars, Sikkim, and Northeast India, but also among the Gorkha community worldwide."

Prashant Tamang was born on January 4, 1983 hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal. He saw immense fame after winning the trophy of Indian Idol 3. He has worked as a constable with the Kolkata Police. The singer is truly gifted as he didn't have any formal musical training and tried his luck in Indian Idol, which opened doors of success for him.
