The Princess of Wales, Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, better known as Kate Middleton, got new military appointments. Buckingham Palace announced the appointment of new honorary positions in the Armed Services for working members of the Royal family on Friday, i.e., August 10, 2023. The appointments primarily involve regiments, corps, and units that were previously led by the late queen, Elizabeth II.
As per reports by People, King Charles gave new military appointments to nine royal family members, including the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. In addition, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Edward, Sophie (the Duchess of Edinburgh), Princess Anne, Prince Richard, and Birgitte (the Duchess of Gloucester) have been assigned new royal roles.

The members of the royal family already had various military affiliations. The announcement is made a month before King Charles' first Accession Day. Some of the new positions were initially held by Prince Andrew, who lost his military affiliations in January 2022 as a result of a sexual assault lawsuit. The palace announced:
“Following His Majesty’s Accession, The King is pleased to announce further military appointments for working Members of the Royal Family. The new appointments will continue to reflect the close relationship between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family in His Majesty’s reign.”
The 41-year-old Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton has been appointed as the Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm, Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st Queen's Dragoon Guards, and Royal Honorary Air Commodore of Royal Air Force Coningsby. The appointment in the Royal Air Force holds a special significance for Kate.

Kate’s grandfathers served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and had reportedly worked with Prince Philip, who was the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of the late Queen, Elizabeth II. As per reports by Hello, Kate's grandfather, Captain Peter Middleton, had flown as a co-pilot with Prince Philip during an aerial tour of South America in 1962.

Not only her grandfather but even Kate’s husband, Prince William, too, has worked with the RAF. This new appointment has strengthened her connection to the RAF. Prince of Wales, William worked as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales.
Prince Williams also received three new appointments, like his wife, Kate Middleton. The heir to the British throne will now hold the titles of Colonel-in-Chief for The Mercian Regiment and The Army Air Corps, as well as the Royal Honorary Air Commodore for RAF Valley, where he once served as a pilot.
For the unversed, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, tied the knot with the Prince of Wales, William, in 2011. They have three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Kate is involved in several charitable and military organizations and works closely with groups that promote mental health.
