Pritish Nandy, a man of multi-talents, bid farewell to the world at the age of 73. If the reports are to be believed, Pritish said farewell to the world on January 8, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his South Mumbai residence. It was Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher who confirmed the same by sharing a photo of the late producer, poet, journalist, and whatnot! His demise surely left everyone heartbroken. Pritish Nandy was an Indian poet, painter, journalist, parliamentarian, media and television personality, and an animal activist. Talking about his early life, he was born on January 15, 1951, to a Bengali family in Bhagalpur in the state of Bihar. His parents were Satish Chandra Nandy and Prafulla Nalini Nandy. Pritish completed his schooling at La Martiniere, where his mother was a teacher. Well, Pritish also briefly read at La Martiniere College, and then moved to Presidency College in Kolkata.
Pritish Nandy is a talented poet and writer whose first book of poems was published back in 1967, with the title, Of Gods and Olives. It was followed by three volumes and then fourteen volumes in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively. During the same time, Pritish Nandy won hearts with his poetry magazine, Dialogue, which he edited and published. The following year, he was nominated as a Poet Laureate by the World Academy of Arts and Culture at the Fifth World Congress of Poets in San Francisco. His contribution to the world of poetry needs no introduction, and one of his poems, Calcutta If You Must Exile Me is considered to be a classic in modern Indian literature. He also was awarded with the Padma Shree Award back in 1977.
Pritish Nandy's journalist career began back in 1982. He served as the editor of The Times Of India till 1991. Apart from TOI, Pritish was also an editor of The Illustrated Weekly, The Independent, and Filmfare. He also worked as a publisher in these portals along with Femina, Science Today, Dharmayug, and Madhuri. In 1996, Pritish opened India's first cyber cafe.
Apart from being a poet and a journalist, Pritish Nandy's career thrived in the political world. He represented Maharastra, being elected to the Rajya Sabha on a Shiv Sena ticket. Pritish was a member of the parliament for 6 years, and he was on several committees, such as the Parliamentary Committee for Defence, the Parliamentary Committee for Communications, and the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs.

Pritish Nandy then moved to films and television and founded Pritish Nandy Communications. The first show of this company was The Pritish NandyShow which aired on Doordarshan. After this, Pritish's company brought India's first weekly business show, Fiscal Fitness: The Pritish Nandy Business Show. He produced several movies such as Mastizaade, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Fatso!, Click, Ugly Aur Pagli, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, and so many others.
His company's two most recent and best works have been the OG series, Four More Shots Please!, and Modern Love Mumbai. Pritish Nandy was also a humanitarian, and he was best known as the founder of People for Animals, which is India's largest animal protection NGO.
Pritish Nandy got married to Rina Nandi, and the duo is parents to three kids, Kushan, Ishita, and Rongita. Talking about his strengths and weaknesses, Pritish, in an interview with TOI, revealed that his greatest weak point was his younger daughter, Ishita. He stated that he thinks there's only one god, and that's his dad.
