Pritish Nandy suffered a cardiac arrest on January 8, 2025, and it came as a massive shock for multiple industries. The reason behind it was Pritish's sheer brilliance in donning multiple hats. He was a renowned writer, an outstanding poet, a talented translator, a skilful filmmaker, a knowledgeable producer, and a famous parliamentarian. It is the reason why renowned personalities from all these diverse fields have come together to pay heartfelt tribute to the Chameli producer.
Despite being an exceptionally talented individual, Pritish Nandy was engulfed in a series of controversies throughout his illustrious career. Although most of them couldn't make a direct impact on his career, there was one particular incident that brought him a lot of criticism. The controversy dates back to the time when Pritish was busy in the final stages of the production of his romantic thriller, Ankahee (2006), which Vikram Bhatt directed.
Pritish Nandy and his wife, Rina Nandy, produced the film, Ankahee and were engrossed in the process of releasing it. However, not many people know that when Pritish was busy with Ankahee, he indulged in a war of words with legendary actor, Dev Anand. It all started when Pritish announced that he would make a film titled Rahgir or Rehguzar.
The film producer had even finalised the director for his aspirational project, and he chose Rituparno Ghosh. However, due to some confusion, several media outlets reported that Pritish Nandy was set to remake Dev Anand's film, Guide, which was based on RK Narayan's novel, The Guide. Soon, Dev Anand threatened Pritish with a legal notice, which warned the film producer to refrain from making a remake of Guide.
In response to Dev Anand's legal notice, Pritish Nandy made a strong statement in the media; the film producer clearly stated that he wasn't making Guide. Sharing details about his project, he said:

"As I have explained to Dev, we are not remaking Guide. Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC), our director Rituparno Ghosh and I have consistently denied that Rahgir is a remake of Guide. We are remaking only one classic - Bimal Mitra's Sahib Bibi AurGhulam, and we've obtained the author's family's permission for the same. If we were remaking Guide, we'd have got the rights to do so."
After some time, the matter was settled between Pritish Nandy and Dev Anand, but the film producer was quite disappointed with the way the iconic actor sent him a legal notice. Calling Dev Anand's legal notice 'impolite', Pritish added that the only similarity between Rahgir and Guide is the illicit relationship between the hero and a married woman.
In an interview with rediff.com, Dev Anand opened up about his legal feud with Pritish Nandy and explained the reason behind sending a legal notice to the film producer. The iconic actor shared that he was a little touchy about Guide because of the spiritual success that the film received. He also clearly stated that no one can remake Guide because Guide belongs to him, RK Narayan and Vijay Anand. The matter ended peacefully, but it sent the message loud and clear to the entire film industry that film producers and directors shouldn't think about remaking Guide.
What are your thoughts on Pritish Nandy and Dev Anand's feud over the speculations of Guide's remake? Let us know.
