Priya Marathe, a well-known TV actress known for her role as 'Varsha' in the popular TV soap opera Pavitra Rishta, has passed away, leaving everyone shocked. For the unversed, she left for the heavenly abode at the age of 38. She is survived by her husband, Shantanu Moghe. Now, her on-screen husband, Anurag Sharma, has reacted to the tragic news. Anurag and Priya played on-screen couple in the superhit TV show, Pavitra Rishta. Her Pavitra Rishta co-star, Usha Nadkarni, expressed her grief over not being able to meet the late actress.
Priya Marathe's sudden demise at the age of 38 is both shocking and heartbreaking at the same time. On August 31, 2025, she took her last breath and succumbed to death after a prolonged battle with cancer. Anurag Sharma, who played the on-screen husband of Priya Marathe in the popular TV serial, Pavitra Rishta, expressed shock and grief over her untimely death. Speaking to Telly Talk India, Anurag said:
"This is really sad to hear that Priya Marathe is no more among us. It is very shocking for all of us, for the entire Pavitra Rishta team, for the industry. Such a nice girl, and very good actress, and a very good human being. I did Pavitra Rishta with her for almost 2-2.5 years. She was playing my wife in it."
Further in the interview, Anurag stated that when they got a call in the morning about Priya's tragic death, they couldn't believe it. He then stated that life is so unpredictable and thus people must prioritise their health first. In his words:
"When we found out, we couldn't believe it. When we got the call in the morning, and we read the chats in the group, we could not believe it. Life is very unpredictable. We don't know when life will leave us. I feel that before running after money, it is important for a person to take care of their health. It is a very sad thing. I hope that God will give peace to her soul."
In an interview with SCREEN, Usha Nadkarni mentioned that she knew about Priya’s cancer and had an operation. She expressed that in recent times, she had learnt that Priya was not keeping well and thus thought of meeting her. However, Priya’s husband, Shantanu, refused to let them meet the late actress. Usha shared that it might be like this that the actress was feeling awkward, as in cancer, a person loses hair due to chemotherapy. She also expressed her grief over the actress’ untimely death. In her words:
"I'd heard that she had cancer. I felt bad because is this even the age to get cancer? Then she had an operation, and even worked on a serial after that. Everything went well. Then I recently learned that she’s not doing well. So we thought of visiting her, but her husband asked us not to visit. Maybe because when you have cancer, you lose all your hair to chemotherapy. So she may feel embarrassed. That was just a few days ago. We have Ganpati at home, so we can’t even visit her for the last rites right now. But I felt very sad. How can God be so cruel? This is no age to die."
We pray for strength for Priya Marathe's family in these testing times.
