Sunjay Kapur's Wife, Priya Sachdev Recalled Her First Marriage To Vikram Chatwal 'I Wasn't Valued..'

The sudden demise of industrialist, Sunjay Kapur on June 12, 2025, due to a fatal heart attack in London, left everyone shocked. He was playing polo when his sudden death filled his family members and other acquaintances in shock. As tributes are pouring in for Sunjay, the attention has turned towards his third wife and now widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. While she has mostly stayed away from the media spotlight, her past has also made it to the headlines. But, rather than shying away from the same, Priya had once opened up about her first marriage to American hotelier, Vikram Chatwal, which ended with a divorce. 

Priya Sachdev opened up about how she noticed the red flags in her first marriage with Vikram Chatwal 

Priya Sachdev Kapur, wife of the late industrialist, Sunjay Kapur, had once opened up about her broken marriage with Vikram Chatwal in an interview with Kin and Kindness, three months before his demise. The interviews have now surfaced on the internet and have gone viral after Sunjay's untimely demise. Priya, who was earlier married to Vikram Chatwal explained that before marrying him, he seemed the right guy who had all the ideal qualities. Recalling the same, she said:

"My ex-husband ticked all the boxes. He went to Wharton and worked at Morgan Stanley. I did mathematics at UCLA, a double major with UCLA and LSE. So I thought this is a perfect match."

Priya reflected that although she believed she had followed the right career and life path, things didn't work out as she expected. Consequently, as she looked back, she realised that she had made the wrong choice in her marriage. Priya also admitted that she got some hints early in the marriage that it wasn't right, which became prominent after her pregnancy, but she still overlooked them. Sharing how she continued to try and make her marriage work, Priya said:

"When I had her, and I realised, a few 15 to 20 weeks into my pregnancy, I realised this marriage is not right. But I continued to make this work."

Priya Sachdev shared that her ex-in-laws supported her decision to part ways with Vikram Chatwal 

In the same conversation, Priya Sachdev shared that after continuously trying to make her marriage work, she finally decided to part ways with Vikram Chatwal after five years. She decided to ensure her and her daughter, Safira's well being. But, what stood out during that difficult time was that her former in-laws called to apologise to her. Priya expressed that she was never valued or appreciated for the sacrifices she made, but that apology felt like the first victory. Reflecting on her difficult divorce and custody battle, she said:

“My ex-in-laws called me apologising… I wasn't valued or appreciated for the sacrifices I made. That was one victory. The divorce wasn't easy, but I won. The voices in my head didn't bother me anymore… When I controlled the voices in my head, I looked at life differently."

She started her career as a Financial Analyst in Boston and even joined her family business. Priya also tried her hand in showbiz with commercials and music videos before making her debut with Neal' n' Nikki. She had a highly-publicised wedding with Vikram Chatwal in 2006, at an estimated cost of around Rs. 100 crores. However, the ex-couple parted ways in 2011 and soon she met and fell in love with Sunjay when he was going through a tough divorce with Karisma Kapoor. Priya and Sunjay tied the knot in 2017 and were parents to a daughter, Safira, from her first marriage and a son, Azarias.
