Priyadarshan entered the Indian film industry with his debut film, Poochakkoru Mookkuthi, which was released in 1984. The film featured critically acclaimed actor, Mohanlal in the lead role. The film was a surprise hit, and its screwball comedy stunned the audience and film critics. The film was remade in Tamil as Thangamani Rangamani, in Hindi as Hungama, in Telugu as Intlo Srimathi Veedhilo Kumari, in Kannada as Jootata, in Bangladesh Bengali as Bhalobeshe Bou Anbo, in Indian Bengali as Le Halua Le, and in Punjabi as Lovely Te Lovely.
Priyadarshan was just 27 years old when he made his debut as a director and instantly made his mark in Indian cinema. In the following decades, he directed a series of memorable films in different languages that still hold a special place in the audience's hearts. Some of his most notable films include Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Chup Chup Ke, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Hulchul, De Dana Dan, Kanchivaram, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, Thenmavin Kombath, Kilukkam, Oppam, and many more.
Priyadarshan has directed over 95 films and continues to lead the headlines for his projects in a career spanning more than four decades. His last film as a director was Appatha, which was released in 2023. He also made his mark in the OTT space with his three web series so far, Forbidden Love, Navarasa, and Manorathangal. Apart from his exceptional work, another thing that people love the most about Priyadarshan is the way he values the relations he has in his life. For instance, Priyadarshan and Mohanlal have been friends since their early 20s.
In his career as a director, Priyadarshan has directed over 95 films, out of which Mohalal has worked in more than 44 films, which clearly speaks volumes about their friendship. We have often heard them talking about their friendship in their respective interviews and sharing how even their families are strongly connected. However, not everyone is aware of the fact that Priyadarshan and Mohanlal were in the same college and crossed paths for the first time in their lives after indulging in a fight over a girl.
Once, during his appearance on the famous channel, Kairali TV, Priyadarshan opened up about the beginning of his friendship with Mohanlal. The filmmaker shared that he used to go to college with a friend from Poojappura. During that time, Priyadarshan liked a girl who was also studying at the university. One day, someone informed Priyadarshan that a boy was doing rounds at the Pallayam bus stand from where his crush used to take the bus to college. Not only this, but the boy was also trying to woo her, and as a result, Priyadarshan immediately took action.

Priyadarshan informed his close friend with whom he used to go to college and told him that they would go to Pallayam bus stand to teach that youngster a lesson. When both the youngsters reached the Pallayam bus stand, Priyadarshan's friend identified the boy and told the filmmaker that his name was Mohanlal. The common friend introduced them and resolved the matter peacefully. Cut to 2025, Priyadarshan and Mohanlal are still together and continue to give pure friendship goals to everyone.
