Is Priyadarshan Upset With Arshad Warsi After Actor Called 'Hulchul' A Flop Movie? Director Reacts

Priyadarshan's movie, Hulchul, has been one of the most evergreen comedy movies. However, it has been years since the movie was released, and it is now being touted for fresh controversy. This was after actor, Arshad Warsi described his experience of working in the movie as 'bad'. He alleged that the role that was promised to him was way bigger than what he ultimately played. Now, director, Priyadarshan has reacted to the claims made by Arshad Warsi.

Hulchul director, Priyadarshan sat down for an interview with the Mid-Day. He expressed his disappointment after reading about Arshad's comments and said he was shocked. Priyadarshan remembered a conversation he had with Arshad after the movie's release, in which the actor expressed his gratitude. This was after Hulchul received a positive response from the fans. Priyadarshan revealed being hurt by Arshad's comments and said:

"After the release, he called and told me, 'Priyan sir, I never thought that I would get this kind of appreciation'. I was very upset when I read what he said. I could be wrong and maybe it has been misinterpreted, but if he has complained, I am shocked. Why would he say that when it was one of my hit films? I am very upset and deeply hurt by these accusations from Arshad. He had no reason to complain."

Arshad Warsi reveals his character was sidelined in Hulchul

Arshad Warsi, earlier in an interview with The Lallantop, revealed why the experience on the movie's sets left him disappointed. Arshad shared of realising the difference between being shown as a central friend in the movie versus essaying a more sidelined character. Arshad shared that when he reached the sets, he was shocked. He does not think Priyadarshan was aware of the same and revealed:

"It’s not his fault. Hulchal was a bad experience. It was a problem. I was very busy at that time and was doing a lot of films, and Neeraj Vora told me that there is a film which is being directed by Priyadarshan. I was like wow, and said done. I asked for my role and I was doing good work at that time. Neeraj told me that my role in the film would be similar to what Akshay Kumar played in Hera Pheri."

Arshad Warsi further revealed that Neeraj Vora had told him that he would be one of the leads in the film. Arshad was told that his character would be like Akshay's role in Hera Pheri, and the actor, without thinking twice, said yes to the same. Despite disagreement between Priyadarshan and Arshad, both have packed movie schedules lined up in 2026.

Priyadarshan is all geared up for the release of Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The movie is set to hit the theatres in 2026, and it marks a reunion of the filmmaker with the great stars. Haiwaan is a remake of a Malayalam hit movie. On the other hand, Arshad Warsi has many projects lined up in the pipeline. One of them includes the highly touted comedy movie, Dhamaal 4, whose shooting has been completed. The movie is slated for an Eid 2026 release. Arshad is also a part of Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana's most anticipated movie, King, which will be released in 2026.
