Famous British actress, Prunella Scales, left everyone teary-eyed with her sudden passing. She was known was playing 'Sybil Fawlty' in the 1970s British comedy series, Fawlty Towers. Her passing at the age of 93 left people across the world in pain. It is worth mentioning that Prunella was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2013.
Prunela has been suffering from Alzheimer's since 2013, wherein a person loses fragments of their memories part by part. It is a difficult situation to deal with for the entire family and for the person diagnosed with it. According to her sons, Samuel and Joseph, Prunela Scaled died peacefully at her home in London.

Her sons, in a statement to the PA Media news agency, revealed that dementia forced her to retire from her glamorous acting career and stay at home. However, her love for cinema never ended, just a day before her death, she was watching Fawlty Towers. The statement can be read as:
"Our darling mother Prunella Scales died peacefully at home in London yesterday. She was 93. Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home. She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died."

It is worth noting that Prunella was married to Timothy West for 61 years, who passed away in November 2024. She is survived by two sons and one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The statement further revealed that Prunella's last days were filled with comfort, care, and love.

It is worth mentioning that in an interview with The Times, on the occasion of Fawlty Towers 30th anniversary, Prunella wanted to work till she died. She expressed her wish to die on the eighth curtain call and work till her last day. She was quoted as saying:

"I want to die on the eighth curtain call. I want to go on working till the day I drop."
Fawlty Towers is one of the funniest British TV shows of all time. It starred Prunella as the long-suffering wife of Basil Fawlty (played by John Cleese), who was a rude hotel manager, and he was always on the brink of a nervous breakdown. The show was a superhit and was shot as two six-part series in 1975 and 1979. It became a cult classic in the United States as well. Prunella was known for the catchphrase of simply yelling 'Basil', which was her husband's name.

Prunella Scales was born in Surrey, England, in 1932. She started her career as an assistant stage manager for the Bristol Old Vic theatre. She has studied at the drama school with an inclination towards acting. Her mother, Catherine, was an actor, and the love for drama was passed down to her.
On the other hand, her father, John, was a cotton salesman, and he also loved theatre. In an interview with the Guardian in 2009, Prunella stated that acting was always in the air while she was growing up. However, the headmistress of Bristol Old Vic thought that she shouldn't be an actress.
