R Madhavan Never Asked A Producer About His Pic's Size On A Poster, 'Big Film Doesn't Have A Soul..'

R Madhavan is one of the most talented actors in the film industry. While he is known for being extremely selective with his roles, the actor has always preferred quality over quantity. In a recent interaction, he revealed that the film, Kesari: Chapter 2 was a similar project for him.

R Madhavan revealed he has never asked a producer about his picture's size on the film's poster

Once in a blue moon, actors come across scripts that leave them mesmerised. Something that aligns with their legacy, and R Madhavan found such a film with Karan Singh Tyagi's Kesari: Chapter 2. The actor, during a conversation with Mid-Day, revealed that for him, it's a film that will transcend the test of time. He added that Rang De Basanti was one such film, and so was 3 Idiots. He shared that one gets the feeling in your bones. The actor recalled that he had told Rajkumar Hirani he would have a tough time trying to beat 3 Idiots, and the same goes for Karan Singh Chhabra with this sequel of Kesari.

Kesari: Chapter 2 has received mixed reviews from fans, with some calling it a masterpiece while others finding it below par. Karan Singh Tudagi offered a dramatised version of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre with Sankaran Nair's fight against the British Empire and their involvement in the incident. R Madhavan has done justice to his role as 'Neville McKinley', the lawyer representing the Crown and while his character might not be at the front and centre of the narrative, it fits perfectly with Madhavan's pursuit of meaningful stories.

During the conversation, R Madhavan revealed that he looks for stories that are beyond just screen time. He shared that if the story works, it benefits them all, but ultimately, he wants a story that has meaning. He added that this was the reason he was able to take on the roles he did. He stated:

"I want to be a pixel of a larger story. If the story works, all of us benefit. I don't take my stardom seriously, which is why I do the kind of films I do. If I took it seriously, I'd want to know my screen time or who's standing in front of me. You can ask any of my producers. I’ve never asked them, 'What’s the size of my picture on the poster?'"

R Madhavan on doing films that have a soul

In the same conversation, R Madhavan revealed that he had never seen the audience wait till the last credit rolls before Kesari: Chapter 2. He added that there are films that are big but lack soul, and then there are films of a much smaller scale that are done for the right cause. He shared that for him, this film was one of those. He stated:

"I've never seen the audience wait till the last credit rolls, which happened here. A film gets a destiny when the final edit is done. There could be a big film that doesn't have a soul. At other times, it could be a small film done for the right reasons, and boom, it becomes a Tanu Weds Manu, or this."
