AR Rahman had announced his separation from his wife, Saira Banu post 29 years of marriage. In many interviews, Vandana Shah, Saira's lawyer spoke about the cause of their separation. In one such conversation with R Madhavan, she revealed the checklist points couples should consider in a life partner. During the chat, R Madhavan opened up about how his wife, Sarita Birje, and how was insecure when he started as a star.
R Madhavan, in conversation with Vandana Shah on the YouTube channel For A Change, shared the insecurities his wife, Sarita, had when he started off as a Bollywood actor. However, many financial decisions had brought stability to the relationship. Madhavan agreed when he started off, he had a chocolate boy image. In his words:
"Girls were fond of me. Obviously, this would create an insecurity for the woman. And having this insecurity is good enough for a marriage to become unstable."
Going ahead in the interview, R Madhavan said he used to ask his parents for tips related to their successful marriage. He said his parents told him they had decided to spend their lives together, so why assume things would go wrong? They would always believe that things were going right. Madhavan quipped:
"They always had a joint account for everything. I said, ‘That makes a lot of sense’.”
The Shaitaan actor revealed that if Sarita felt insecure whenever she looked at her bank account, he wanted her to feel it. Madhavan revealed he always believed in having a joint account, where finances belonged equally to him and his partner. In his words:
"You are an equal signatory on it.’ So, I am going to assume that this marriage is going to work and I am going to say that I trust you and I hope you trust me.”
The actor also mentioned that his marriage worked well by keeping a joint account. This was because his wife, Sarita, was confident about his earnings and handled the full economics. He even admitted that he and his wife are joint owners of all the cars and properties they have bought so far. He agreed to be a guy living off his credit card so all the money would be with his wife.

Before becoming a superstar, the actor was a public speaking and communication coach. He was Sarita's teacher and she had enrolled to become an air hostess. In an earlier interview with the Times Of India, Madhavan remembered how Sarita had asked him out for dinner. This was because she wanted to thank him after she got her first job. Their love had a forever ending since that time. It was in 1999 that the couple got married after dating for eight years. They had a traditional Tamil wedding.
