Iconic singer and musician, Bappi Lahiri need no introduction as he is often regarded as one of the most versatile composers of all time. He is also renowned for extensively introducing synthesised disco in Indian cinema. Unfortunately, on the morning of February 16, 2022, the nation woke up to the saddest news of 'Disco King', Bappi Lahiri's demise at CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai. According to several media reports, it is stated that Bappi Lahiri was hospitalised for a month due to multiple health issues and was discharged on February 14, 2022. However, his health had deteriorated on February 15, 2022, and on February 16, 2022, he breathed his last.
It was in 1969 when his debut film, Dadu as a music director had released. However, his songs, I Am A Disco Dancer, Raat Baaki, Pag Ghoongroo, are still considered party anthems. Bappi Lahiri has given some incredibly famous tracks in the late 1970s-80s in the films like Disco Dancer, Sharaabi, Chalte Chalte, and the list goes on.

Over the years, while some have idolised and cherished late Bappi Lahiri's unique gold collection, some have had mocked him for wearing too much gold, and one of them was the late legendary actor, Raaj Kumar. Yes! You read it right, the epitome of class and style, Raaj wasn't a huge fan of Bappi's gold collection, and the actor known for his outspoken nature had made a slightly strange remark on the iconic singer. According to reports, Bappi and Raaj had met for the first time at a star-studded event. And it was then when the late actor, Raaj had passed a joke on Bappi, the moment he had seen him in the event in his trademark look, donning a lot of gold. Raaj Kumar had said:
“Waah, shaandaar. Ek se ek gahane, bas mangalsutra ki kamee rah gayi hai.”
For the unversed, late Bappi Lahiri had time and again opened up about his 'true love' for gold. He had also added that he had believed 'gold' as his lucky charm, which was the reason why he had always carried a lot of gold jewellery with him. As per the reports, in 2014, the iconic singer had owned 754 grams of gold jewellery.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, late Bappi Lahiri was asked to reveal his plans for Dhanteras 2021. Answering this, the veteran singer had revealed that he had got tired of buying gold chains and had told his wife, Chitrani Lahiri, to buy a gold tea set. Bappi had added that his wife had fulfilled his wish, making him super-happy. He had said:
"Today on Dhanteras, I asked my wife to bring me a gold tea set. I saw a beautiful tea set and I wanted to have it. She went shopping and bought gold for me on this auspicious occasion. I didn't take gold chain this time. Everything is gold. I thought a tea set or a cup and a plate would be better."
Going further in the interview, late Bappi Lahiri was asked to share his reaction to being hailed as the 'Gold Man of India'. Answering this, the singer had clearly stated that it was an honour for him to be called up with such a unique and great title. Showing his delight, Bappi had said:
"I am proud to be called the Gold Man. Gold is lucky for me. When I started wearing gold, my songs started becoming hits."
