Recently, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan became a hot topic of discussion for all the wrong reasons. On January 27, 2024, the acclaimed singer got embroiled in a controversy when a video of the singer beating one of his students with a slipper went viral. However, a new video has surfaced in the media, where he explained why he hit his student and the reality behind the whole incident. The singer sat for a one-on-one conversation with Adeel Asif, where the duo talked about the professional front of RFAK, and delved deeper into what had happened between Khan and his student, Naveed Hussain.
During their conversations, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that he had publicly accepted that he scolded and hit one of his students, but he immediately apologised once he realised his mistake. He also emphasised that the bottle he was talking about in the previous video was actually a bottle of holy water, which he got from a religious cleric. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said:
“Sach maine khud accept kiya hai. Wo mera shagird tha, maine usko daanta hai, peeta hai aur uske bad maine usse maafi bhi maangi hai. Aur ye bhi baat sach hai, log mazak kar rahe hai, ye baat sach hai ki mere peer-o-murshid ka paani tha, jo uske paas pada tha. Uss cheez ki dept ko nahi samajh rahe hai, spiritual ek mamla hai mera aur mere peer sahab ka. Wo mere liye bohot badi cheez thi. Jo insaan iss saari negative muhim ke peeche tha main usko ek jawab dena chahta hun, ‘Muddai lakh bura chahe toh kya hota hai, jo hota hai manzoor-e-khuda hota hai.’”

RFAK also mentioned during the conversation that his student, Naveed Hussain, whom he was seen beating up, cried when the singer apologised to him in front of the whole world. The singer further added that he considers himself a father figure to his students, including Naveed, who is particularly close to him due to his father's long-term association with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his family. RFAK has also looked after Naveed's father and daughters as if they were his own family members. He said:
“Naveed ke jo waalid sahab hai wo 40 saal pehle se Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ke shagird hai, Naveed 15 saal pehle shagird hua. Inki family mein shagird hai hamare. Naveed ke father ko jab heart ka problem hua, maine unka pura ilaaj karwa ke diya aur Naveed ki khud ki jo beti hai uske jo kaan ke operates wo maine uske karwaye, bacchiyon ki shaadiyan bhi, har tarah ka jaise ek baap ka role hota hai, shagird ko uss waqt zaroorat hai baap ki, toh humne wo bhi role adaa kiya ha, unki har tarah ke takleef mein saath diya hai.”
At the end of their conversation, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was asked by the host to send a message to his audience. The singer then went on to reveal that the negative campaign against him started right before his world tour. The acclaimed singer further added that by God’s blessing, he still has that fan following even after such a smear campaign. He said:
“Ye jo abhi negativity ka pehlu aaya aur ye sirf or sirf hamare world tour start karne ks reaction tha, jis bande ne isko karwaya hai taaki hamari jo audience hai, hamari followers hai wo kam ho, wo Alhandullilah, Allah taala ka bada karm hai ki woh toh kam nahi hote. Logon ne mera gaana sun na hai, mera performance dekhna hai, logon ne humein music ki wajah se pyaar diya hai, na ki mere kisi attitude ki wajah se pyaar diya hai.”
