Raj Kapoor's Cottage Had 'Nargis' Room Which Held Her Clothes, Wife Asked To Sell It After His Death

Raj Kapoor, the legend of Hindi cinema, wasn't untouched by love. However, when love knocked on the door of Raj Kapoor's heart, he was married. Yes, the lady who touched Raj Kapoor's heart and brought chaos to his wife, Krishna Kapoor's life, was none other than Nargis. The late legendary actress, Nargis, was just 16 years old, and Raj Kapoor was 22 when he fell in love with her. While their relationship ended, Raj Kapoor held her close even after ending all ties.

Raj Kapoor's cottage had a special 'Nargis' room

It is reported that Raj Kapoor and Nargis had known each other for 16 years. The actress wanted to marry Raj Kapoor, despite knowing that he was already married and it wasn't legally possible. She even consulted the best lawyers in India to seek guidance on whether it was possible. While the two never married, their relationship often makes headlines even after so many years since their passing. 

Even after decades, fans remain keen to learn the details of Raj Kapoor and Nargis' love story. In fact, Raj Kapoor, all his life kept the bond intact, by giving a special place to Nargis in his Chembur bungalow. It is revealed that Raj Kapoor had a room dedicated to 'Nargis'. In the book, The Kapoors: The First Family of Indian Cinema, Madhu Jain revealed that RK Cottage was built even before the RK studio. It had a room at the back, known as Nargis' room. It was kept as a shrine with her clothes and crockery.

Madhu Jain revealed that Raj Kapoor often dwelled there, as it was like a temple for his inner self, where he could be himself. It was the dearest cottage for him, and it held several family weddings and elaborate lunches, which showed the Kapoors' family's hospitality. 

However, after Raj Kapoor's death, it was his wife, Krishna Kapoor who advised her children to sell the cottage and let it go. In the Netflix documentary, Dining With The Kapoors, Raj Kapoor's daughter, Rima Jain revealed that her mother, Krishna Kapoor advised her children to sell off the house and let it go. The cottage was sold for Rs. 180 crore to Rs. 200 crore in May 2019.
