However, Rajendra did not give his consent and told his parents that he did not want to marry a girl from a rich family. Rajendra had said:

"The standard of living to which she is accustomed, her desires, how will I ever fulfill her needs? And who knows about tomorrow? Whether success comes or not is a matter of destiny."

Rajendra Kumar's father appreciated his son's honesty, but he felt Rajendra needed to settle down. It was at this moment that he told them about Shukla. She was the sister of Ramesh Behl and Shyam Behl. The Behl family was famous in the Hindi movies, and Rajendra Kumar fell in love with Shukla, the youngest daughter in the family. He knew that she was the one for him.

She knew about how her college friends were crazy about Rajendra and were shocked when he decided to marry a simple Shukla. He was famous back then as an assistant director.

Shukla also revealed how one day she and Rajendra were watching a movie, and he placed his hands on her.

 It was a feeling that she could not forget. She felt as if a current had run down her arm and she pulled away. After that, it was impossible for both of them to spend time away from one another. The waiting period gave them time to kind of nurture their friendship. Shukla revealed of being 10 years younger than Rajendra but being mature. Both of them were engaged for a year and a half before they got married. This was ahead of the release of Rajendra's movie, Vachan.

Rajendra Kumar's first silver jubilee hit was the movie, Vachan. Shukla and Rajendra Kumar's families felt that she had got sheer luck in his life. Shukla's prayer meeting on January 10, 2026, reportedly will take place at 7 Pali Hills, Nargis Road in Bandra. Vachan had got Rajendra Kumar a lot of success, and he got everything he wanted in life. The lady behind his success who stood by him was Shukla, whose demise has left a hollow in the hearts of the Hindi film fraternity.
