Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai is one of the most classic Indian sitcoms that dominated the TV screen from 2004 to 2006. However, the show, its characters, dialogues and more have constantly remained a part of pop culture and memes. Each of the unique 'Sarabhai' family members has become iconic in their own way. However, one of the most loved characters of the show till date is 'Rosesh Sarabhai', played by Rajesh Kumar. However, as a young actor working among stalwarts, Rajesh recently opened up about being ragged by his co-stars, especially Satish Shah.
Rajesh Kumar, while talking on the YouTube channel Be You With Shraddha S, shared credit with his co-stars for making 'Rosesh Sarabhai' such an iconic and memorable character. He said that the character was shaped by how 'Maya', played by Ratna Pathak Shah, and 'Indravardhan', essayed by Satish Shah, reacted to their on-screen son 'Rosesh'. Rajesh further revealed that even now, he gets treated and trolled like 'Rosesh' when he is with his Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai co-stars, especially Satish Shah. The actor was quoted as saying:
“Rosesh worked because of the reactions. It wasn’t just the way he spoke or his attitude. The magic happened because of how Ratna Pathak Shah or Satish Shah responded to him. Even today, when I’m around the five of them, I instantly become Rosesh because they still treat me like him. If I forward something in our WhatsApp group, no matter what it is, they still troll me–especially Satish ji."
Rajesh Kumar also revealed that the bond between the Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai cast members is much like the one they shared in the show. They are all like a family, and he still calls Ratna Pathak Shah as 'Moma'. Meanwhile, the nok-jhok between 'Indravardhan' and 'Rosesh', and the way the former would troll and make fun of his son, has been carried forward behind the screen as well. Satish Shah talks to Rajesh in the same way the actor claimed and shared:
“Satish ji still says, ‘Tu chup reh, tu toh bol hi mat,’ and I just go quiet. I tell him, ‘Kaka, I am 50 now!’ and he replies, ‘So what? You will always be our Rosesh.’ Till date, we call each other by the same names–Ratna ji is still ‘Moma,’ she calls me ‘Roshu,’ Rupali calls me ‘Roshu Bhaiya,’ Sumeet is ‘Bade’ and I’m ‘Chote.’ With Satish ji, I say ‘Dad’ or ‘Kaka.’ After the shoot, our bond only grew stronger. We can truly say we are a Sarabhai family.
Rajesh Kumar revealed that he was married while playing the role of 'Rosesh', but never brought his wife to the set, as he was scared about how his co-stars would treat him in front of her. The actor said that throughout the one and a half years of shooting, he was nervous, given the fact that he was acting opposite seasoned actors like Ratna Pathak Shah and Satish Shah, and was also doing comedy for the first time. Recalling one incident where he had tears in his eyes, Rajesh said:
“There was this one scene where I had to deliver a 1.5-page dialogue about the activities I did while being insomniac. I kept forgetting the lines–we did at least eight takes. Satish ji got angry and said, ‘Call me when he remembers his lines.’ The way he said it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t tell if it was anger, insult, or just ragging. After that, I went to my director and asked for some time. Even now, I remind Satish ji that he once made me cry, but he never agrees.”
