Popular South actor, Dhanush had tied the knot with superstar, Rajinikanth's daughter, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, in the year 2004. The happily married couple would often share adorable glimpses from their lives on their respective social media handles. However, after 18 years of marriage, the couple had announced their split on January 17, 2022. The news had left their fans in utter shock, and ever since then, their fans have been speculating the reasons behind their separation.
To announce their separation, Aishwarya R Dhanush and Dhanush had shared a long note on their respective social media handles. Expressing their feelings in their separation note and asking people to give them privacy to deal with it, the couple had penned:
"18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting... Today we stand at a place where our paths separate... Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this."

There is no denying that Rajinikanth and his now ex-son-in-law, Dhanush share a warm bond, and the two share a more like a father-son relationship. According to reports, a source close to the family stated that when Dhanush and Aishwaryaa had got married in 2004, Rajinikanth had gifted his then son-in-law a very rare Rudraksha neckband, specially brought for him from the Himalayas. Moreover, due to his immense respect for Rajinikanth, Dhanush has never removed the Rudraksha from his neck unless he has to during the shoots. The source also revealed that the much-celebrated actor would continue to wear Rajini's gift even after his separation from Aishwaryaa.

However, some time back, we had stumbled upon a viral video of him singing a song of his ex-father-in-law, Rajinikanth and making his now ex-wife, Aishwaryaa, blush. In the video, Dhanush was seen singing the track, ‘Ilamai Thirumbudhe’ from his now ex-father-in-law, Rajinikanth’s blockbuster film, Petta. While singing the song and flaunting his dance moves, Dhanush had walked and had pointed towards Aishwaryaa, who couldn’t stop herself from blushing. Dhanush had continued singing while hugging Aishwaryaa, making it a sight to behold for all his and Rajinikanth’s fans.
With Aishwaryaa’s last post for her now ex-husband, Dhanush, nobody could guess the turmoil they were dealing with! On the 67th National Film Awards, Rajinikanth was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his immense contribution to the Indian film industry. On the other hand, Dhanush had bagged the Best Actor award for his stellar performance in Asuran. It was a proud moment for Aishwaryaa when her father and her husband were bestowed with prestigious awards. Taking to her IG handle on October 25, 2021, Aishwaryaa had shared two photos, one of her father and her husband and one with them. Along with the pictures, she had captioned her post as:

For the unversed, in 2011, Dhanush was reported to be dating Shruti Haasan, which had led to turmoil in his married life with Aishwaryaa!
