Rajinikanth Recalls Amitabh Bachchan's Financial Crisis, Says 'Whole Bollywood Was Laughing At Him'

Rajinikanth recently recalled an old incident and shared how people from Bollywood made fun of Amitabh Bachchan during a financial crisis.

Rajinikanth Recalls Amitabh Bachchan's Financial Crisis, Says 'Whole Bollywood Was Laughing At Him'

Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan are the greatest actors Indian cinema has ever witnessed. Despite being in the industry for around five decades, they have stayed relevant with their hard work and acting prowess. The veteran actors, who are even worshipped by their fans, share an old friendship that dates back to the '70s and '80s. Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan are all set to reunite on the big screen after 33 years in the Tamil film, Vettaiyan. Its audio launch event was recently held, where Rajinikanth shared some unknown anecdotes from Amitabh's life. 

Rajinikanth reveals Amitabh Bachchan wasn't able to pay his watchman when he dealt with a financial crunch 

On September 20, 2024, the audio launch event of the Tamil film, Vettaiyan was held. Rajinikanth graced it, and even Amitabh Bachchan, a part of the film, joined through a video call. Rajinikanth shared an unknown incident from when Amitabh Bachchan went bankrupt in the 1990s and shared how hard it was for Big B. For the unversed, Amitabh Bachchan launched his company in the '90s, but it failed to make profits, leaving him in debt.

The Robot actor admired Amitabh's resilience and shared that he couldn't even pay his watchman a salary during that difficult time. In addition, when his home came under bidding, the whole Hindi film industry laughed at him. Despite the setback, Big B didn't lose hope and began working through ads and game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. So, due to his drive, he was able to revive his career and reached new heights of success. Rajinikanth's was quoted by India Today as saying:

"He was not even able to pay his watchman. His Juhu home came into Public Bidding. The whole Bollywood was laughing at him. The world will just wait for your downfall. In three years, he did all the ads, KBC earned all the money and bought back three homes along with the Juhu home on the same street. He is such an inspiration. He is 82-years-old, and he is working for 10 hours a day."

Rajinikanth appreciated how Amitabh Bachchan never misused his connections 

During the same event, Rajinikanth further shared how Amitabh didn't ever use his family influence or connections for any benefit. He mentioned that Amitabh was the son of great writer, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and was friends with the Gandhi family but didn't take its undue advantage. Recalling the time, Rajinikanth said: 

"Once, Amitabh ji had a terrible accident. At that time, Indira Gandhi had gone to a conference abroad. When she came to know about the accident, she immediately came to India. Only then did everyone know that Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh ji had studied together."

Amitabh Bachchan's professional front

On the work front, Amitabh was last seen in the Telugu film, Kalki 2898 AD. He is currently hosting the 16th season of his game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actor will be next seen in his Tamil debut film, Vettaiyan, and Hindi film, Aankh Micholi 2.
