Rajiv Thakur Defends Kapil Sharma, Calls Arrogance Remark Unfair, Feud With Sunil Grover 'Overhyped'

Kapil Sharma is the undisputed king of Indian comedy. His presence of mind on the stage, his comedic timing, and his acting prowess are what made him the richest comedian in India. However, throughout the years, he found himself in the middle of controversies, particularly regarding his alleged arrogance and his infamous fallout with actor-comedian, Sunil Grover. Now, comedian, Rajiv Thakur has now stepped forward to defend Kapil.

Actor-comedian, Rajiv Thakur, who also shares the stage with Kapil on his show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, recently had a hearty chat with Siddharth Kannan. Talking about his experience working with Kapil Sharma, Rajiv actively defended the comedian against the allegations of him being arrogant. He highlighted Kapil’s ability to flawlessly memorize lengthy scripts, deliver engaging performances, and juggle multiple responsibilities, including hosting guests and collaborating with the creative team. Rajiv shared:

“He is under a lot of pressure, and people don’t understand that. Who can memorise a 2 to 2.5-hour-long script? He has never fumbled, not even once. He adds a punch to every entry he makes. Besides performing, he has to welcome guests, make them feel comfortable, and sit with the channel’s creative team to work on the show.”

Rajiv Thakur praises Kapil Sharma for handling fame the way he does

Continuing with his defence of Kapil, Rajiv praised the comedian for his patience and composure in handling things, especially considering the toll fame can take on someone. The IC 814 actor even admitted that he sometimes feels irritated by fans. Rajiv remarked:

“If the show has been running successfully for 10-12 years, it’s because of his effort and hard work. It’s not about arrogance. If I became as famous as him, I might lose my mind too. Nobody handles fame as well as he does. I, who doesn’t even have 5 per cent of his success, sometimes feel irritated by fans. But you should see how warmly he meets his fans.”

The much-publicised fallout between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover in 2017 was one of the biggest controversies in Indian television. Reports suggested that Kapil was allegedly intoxicated, and misbehaved with Sunil during a flight, leading to Sunil’s exit from The Kapil Sharma Show. However, after years of professional rivalry, the duo reunited to work together on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Addressing the fight, Rajiv remarked:

“Who doesn’t fight? If their fight was so serious, how are they still mingling and shooting together today? Money can make you work together, but if you observe the atmosphere on set, you’ll see they genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Even after the shoot, they sit together…When Sunil wasn’t on the show, Kapil wasn’t facing losses, and vice versa. You can’t fake this camaraderie.”

A few days ago, a teaser for Season 3 of The Great Indian Kapil Show was launched at an event. While posing with his fellow crew members, including Archana Puran Singh, Kapil took a hilarious dig at the feud. Kapil jokingly asked the photographers to wait until Sunil arrived for the group photo, quipping, "Sunil paaji ko aane do. Phir aap likhoge voh phir bhaag gaye."
