Hrithik Roshan is one of the superstars of the Hindi cinema. He is popularly hailed by the tag of being the ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood. His journey to showbiz has been quite exceptional, as he was a rare case of being an overnight star. For the unversed, Hrithik Roshan made his debut in the year 2000 with the film, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and thereafter, never looked back on his professional career. Despite being the son of eminent actor-turned-filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik has climbed the stairs of success with his own merit and hardwork.
Hrithik Roshan collaborated with his father and filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan for a few films, which turned out to be the most successful films of the former’s career. Of them, was his very debut, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. In one of his old interactions with Karan Thapar on BBC, Hrithik Roshan spoke about the massive financial risk his father, Rakesh Roshan took, in order to launch him. The doting son revealed that his dad mortgaged his car as well as his house, since the budget for the film overshot by Rs. 3 crores. Adding how it all paid of well at the end, Hrithik had shared:
“The film was about three crore over budget, the house was mortgaged, the car was mortgaged. But I didn’t know about it, the last time it happened was when he was making his first film, Khudgarz, his home production, which he directed himself. He had to do that and he had to do it to launch his son, and both times it worked out.”

Well, the former wasn’t convinced with the screenplay of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, as he felt that both his double roles weren’t substantial. Hrithik then added how his father staunchly rebuked him and stated how the former shouldn’t teach him to make films. Hrithik further revealed:
“I asked my father, ‘How am I going to show people I can do things? I am only laughing, dancing and wearing good clothes. I thought the film belonged to the girl’s (character). Both the guys are nice guys and supposed to be good-looking (Rohit and Raj). He said, ‘I am making a movie, you wanna act in it then do, don’t tell me how to make films. I am not making the film to launch you.”

Soon after the humongous success of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and the launch of Hrithik Roshan, his family had to endure a massive tragedy when Rakesh Roshan got shot by unknown assailants. The reason behind the attack was purely jealousy, seeing the immense success of the film. “I wanted to withdraw from acting, at that time I was shooting. I had to honour my commitments, so I went ahead with that. There was this dance rehearsal for this song ‘Bhumro’ from Mission Kashmir, so I was doing that, and I was dancing, and I caught my reflection in the mirror and suddenly I stopped. I thought my father is in the hospital, ‘why am I doing this’ you know. I am dancing? I just felt very dirty inside…That assassination attempt was somehow related to the success of the film KNPH, somebody got upset you know. It was the movie business. My heart just…I didn’t want to do films anymore.”
