One of the OG power couples of Tollywood, Ram Charan and his darling wifey, Upasana Kamineni make for match-made-in-heaven. Regarding professional talents, the duo complements each other in a perfect balance. While Ram is a popular actor and a ladies’ favourite at that, Upasana is an impeccable philanthropist and a hard-working entrepreneur. However, beyond that, the duo is each other’s soulmates and stay beside one another, no matter what.

Well, the dashing megastar and the stunning power woman, Ram and Upasana had met each other way back during their college days. They gradually transpired the relationship from just casual college mates to the best of friends, as they also got involved in maddening fights with one another. And it is through the foundation of an unbreakable friendship that kindled love between the couple, which, unfortunately, they realised much later after their good old college days. In the words of Upasana in an interview, she mentioned:
“We were friends for a very long time – since college actually. There were no special feelings between us before I went overseas to study. Love just happened and it was a nice change. What drew us together was that we both knew we had to live up to the expectations our families had of us. We shared similar thoughts, we had the same problems and we both shared the same outlook and belief of working hard to achieve success,”
Initially, both Ram and Upasana never imagined turning their bond as best friends into something else. However, as destiny had other plans for the two of them, it also made love blossom in the hearts of Ram and Upasana. Reportedly, Ram felt that his feelings for Upasana had changed during the shooting of his iconic film, Magadheera. While the duo had kept a distant connection post their college days, it was during the film’s shoot that Ram realised how much he missed Upasana. And it was right after the film’s release when the duo started dating each other. Ram Charan had once revealed that it was only after his film, Magadheera that he started dating Upasana. In his words:
"The truth is even though we had known each other for long, we started dating only after the release of my film Magadheera’. One fine day, what my dad had told me years ago came back to me. He had told me when I was weighing my career options that I wasn’t recognising the opportunities I have as an actor. And that I was looking everywhere while sitting on the pot of gold. The scenario seemed similar now. Here was a girl, my friend of 7 years, everybody was able to see her as my ideal partner and I was being oblivious. That’s when I realised that I was waiting to find the right girl while I had her with me all along. My perspective underwent a transformation.”
Luck was certainly on the side of the lovers, Ram and Upasana, when their families learnt about their relationship. Both their families raised no objections as they knew each other very well before, and even they thought that Ram and Upasana’s match seemed only perfect. Therefore, the couple decided to take the plunge, and the couple got engaged on December 11, 2011, at Temple Tree Farms, Hyderabad.

After a lavish engagement ceremony to celebrate the union of the lovely couple, the families of Ram and Upasana decided not to wait too long to unite the couple in a bond of togetherness. Therefore, a year later, on June 14, 2012, Tollywood’s megastar, Ram Charan officially left the bachelor’s club and united with his darling, Upasana Kamineni. The couple tied the knot in a gala South Indian traditional wedding that caught the limelight immediately. However, what made their wedding festivity all the more remarkable was when Ram hosted a lavish lunch for his fans a day later, on June 15, 2012.
The couple hosted a grand wedding reception party for their extended friends and family members at Hotel Novotel, Hyderabad, on the evening of their wedding on June 14, 2012. The celebration was everything that spoke of grandeur and luxury. It was attended by the who’s who of not just Tollywood but Bollywood as well.
The union of Ram and Upasana had been hailed as one of the most talked-about marriages in the South Indian film industry. While this was partly because of the esteemed family backgrounds of the duo, it was also because it was the perfect love story ever. Coming to their life after marriage, it was difficult for Upasana to adjust to Ram’s choice of profession, which needed him to be in the limelight every time. But, gradually, she adjusted to the same and became the better halves of one another. The duo reside in a happy abode at Hyderabad’s posh locality, Jubilee Hills. In an interview, Ram Charan had spilled the beans behind his happy married life and revealed that the duo still feel more like friends than a married couple. In his words:
"It still feels like we are friends. Moreover, she always takes care of me big time. She also makes everything special for me. Which man won’t be floored with so much attention and affection? She remembers every minor and major habit of mine."
It was nearly after ten years of their marital bliss that Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni announced to the world that they are expecting their first child. It has been a grand time for the couple and their families as they await the arrival of their bundle of joy with bated breath. Moreover, the soon-to-be-born child seems to have brought a lot of luck for the daddy-to-be, Ram Charan, as his iconic film, RRR, recently won the Oscars.
