Ram Kapoor found himself in the middle of a controversy once again. The actor has been creating stirs online with his comments for a while now. However, this time, he might have just crossed all the lines for the netizens. Ram Kapoor had a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay, but during a segment about body image issues, his comments went extremely off the rails for the audience.
During the conversation, Ram Kapoor discussed his thoughts on body image issues within the entertainment industry and highlighted the challenges faced by those who were not at their physical best. However, it was his remark about his former co-star from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti Irani, that resulted in a widespread debate and criticism. While Ram's attempt might have been to point out the lack of opportunity in the industry for an overweight person, it took an unexpected turn with the mention of Smriti.
Ram Kapoor has worked with Smriti Irani in the popular TV show, where they shared a similar body type. He argued that despite being of a similar size, she received more success during that time. The actor further pointed out how her physical transformation over the show's eight-year duration was a result of character demands and logical progression in the storyline.
Ram Kapoor added that the change in Smriti's physical appearance was deliberate rather than a personal oversight, as it was what her character demanded, and she embraced the nature of ageing. A part of his statement was quoted as saying:
"She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than I was. It's just that she left earlier, and that was Smriti Irani. Smriti started with Kyunki Saas, and when she ended, she was huge. See the first year of Kyuki and the last year, she's as big as I am."
Netizens were not pleased by Ram Kapoor's comment, despite his apparent tone of admiration for the actress. A user penned, "She acted during her pregnancy. Did you?" Another penned, "What did I just hear? Did he just say that success is directly proportional to the LITERAL SIZE of a human being? Has he lost it, or has this been taken out of context? I mean, wtf?" Another comment read, "You didn't need to emphasise her size! She was skinnier than any of you while being a finalist on Miss India."

However, other users felt that his comment was taken out of context and stated, "Taken out of context, see the full interview." Another wrote, "Editors sudhar jaao. Hook pick krne k naam pr insan ki image kharab krne me lage hue ho." A user in a long note stated, "It's quite cunning the way these guys edit interviews nowadays, keeping only the spicy, controversial words and statements at the beginning, with zero context. The viewer gets hooked and keeps watching. I thought Ram was saying something negative about Smriti. But later, you hear the interviewer's question and realise why he said what he said."
