We have seen actors going an extra mile, be it galloping a cheeseburger or eating just an apple a day, for their roles. And Ram Kapoor too, proved his dedication for his craft and had put on a weight to commit to his role in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. But after this transition, the roles he was being offered also changed as the industry started stereotyping him in roles of older men. However, he later realised that his health is as important as his career and he started working hard and slogging in the gym. Taking his fitness seriously, Ram started spending time in the gym and tweeted some pictures from the same with the caption, “Work in progress”.

In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Ram Kapoor has talked about his ‘personal passion project’ due to which he hasn’t stepped in front of the cameras in 2019. Ram has lost about 30 kgs since he started his take-no-prisoners attitude to the gym and his diet. Speaking about the same, Ram shared, “I was 130 kgs when I started and I want to lose another 25–30 kgs.” Ram's fitness journey started about two years ago when he decided that he wanted to be fit by the time he turned 45. But working around-the-clock made it difficult for him to start and stick to a weight loss regimen. Ram said, “I decided that if I wanted to do achieve my weight goals, I will have to take time off from work. It would need to be a substantial length of time — six months to a year.”
Revealing that his makeover is a result of two intense hours of working out every day and intermittent, Ram Kapoor remarked, “As soon as I wake up in the morning, I do an hour of weight-lifting on an empty stomach. And, at night just before I sleep, I do cardio. I eat limited food during a period of eight hours. For the rest of the 16 hours, I don’t eat anything at all. I have given up dairy, oil, most carbs and sugar. I have given up normal food as I know it.” (Also Read: Rhea Kapoor Transforms From Flab To Fab In 6 Months, Nutritionist Reveals The Secret)
For Ram Kapoor, the toughest food to cut out of his diet has been meat. As it is rightly said, losing weight is as much a physical challenge as it is a mental one. And during the one year that Ram had completed his acting commitments, he had also mentally steeled himself. Ram said, “I knew this journey is going to be tough.” For him, the challenge began with making health his number one priority. Ram continued, “It is a hard decision to stop work completely for such a long period. I have been an unhealthy man for the last 10 years of my career. I am grateful that my fans accepted me the way I was, and that I had a career. At some point, I had to decide to get healthier. Once I made that decision, my health became the priority and my career took a back seat, at least for the time being.”
Ram Kapoor realised that his new look will impact the kind of roles he will be offered in the future, and explained, “Both the audience and the industry had accepted and embraced how I used to look. Once I start looking fitter, I will have to reinvent myself as an actor and build a different image for myself. I will not be able to get the same kind of roles I was getting in the last decade. It’s probably going to be hard, but that’s what has gotten me really excited about this transformation.”
As you have seen the series of images Ram has posted, it’s not just his weight loss that has caught our attention, but the heavy smattering of grey hair had fans calling him a ‘silver fox’. Ram shared that he had started greying a few years ago and at the beginning of this sabbatical, his wife, Gautami Kapoor had suggested that he ‘let the greys grow out’. Elaborating on the same, Ram was quoted as saying, “I used to dye my hair for work but Gautami loves the salt ’n’ pepper look. And, now I love it too. If at all a project needs me to dye it, I will, otherwise I’ll stick with this.”
Ram Kapoor met the love of his life, Gautami, who he had met and fell in love with on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir, and he credits her for being the inspiration behind his dramatic weight loss and the biggest supporter throughout his journey. Ram remarked, “Gautami is incredibly fit, which is a huge motivation. Eventually our kids are going to grow up and go away. It’s just going to be the two of us taking care of each other, travelling and growing old together. I had the option of either being the way I am, where she’d need to take care of me because of how fat I was, or I could get as healthy as her so that both of us can enjoy life together.” (Also Read: Sara Ali Khan To Alia Bhatt: B-Town Divas Who Went From Fat To Fab With Dedication And Hard Work)
