Ranbir Kapoor Carries, Ayan Mukerji's Dad, Deb Mukherjee's Mortal Remains, Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Ranbir Kapoor gave the mark of respect to Deb Mukherjee by giving a shoulder to his mortal remains. He stood by his friend, Ayan Mukerji during the time of grief.

Ranbir Kapoor Carries, Ayan Mukerji's Dad, Deb Mukherjee's Mortal Remains, Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Bollywood director, Ayan Mukerji's dad, Deb Mukherjee, passed away at the age of 83 on the morning of March 14, 2025. His cause of demise was due to old age complications. The news of his demise shook the entire Bollywood film fraternity. Ranbir Kapoor and his wife, Alia Bhatt, who had gone to Alibaug to celebrate her birthday, came back to be close to their best friend, Ayan. Ranbir stood by Ayan during his tough time and also gave his shoulder to carry Deb's body.

Ranbir Kapoor carries Deb Mukherjee's last remains

Ranbir looked devastated as he gave his shoulder to carry the mortal remains of Deb Mukherjee. A video that went viral showed Ranbir clad in a simple white shirt and blue jeans, standing in shock and solidarity as Ayan and his family grieved. Ranbir gave the most beautiful respect and tribute to Deb and showed that he was Ayan's true friend as he became a pallbearer. As seen in the clip, Ranbir was seen being with Ayan's family members and was seen carrying Deb's body, which was neatly wrapped in a full white cloth.

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt return back to Mumbai

Ranbir has a long friendship with Ayan, and the duo has worked together in Ayan's directorial, Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. Alia and Ranbir were seen coming back to Mumbai, and they cut their birthday trip short after they heard the heartbreaking news of Deb's demise. Deb's niece, Kajol, was also seen visiting his residence apart from Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Jaya Bachchan and Ayan, Deb's close friends who came to give their last respect.

Who was Deb Mukherjee?

Deb was Ayan's father and also the father-in-law of filmmaker, Ashutosh Gowariker. Deb was also a famous, respected member of the Mukherjee-Samarth family who had a pivotal impact in shaping Indian cinema. Deb has worked in many Bollywood movies, such as Ban Gaye Phool, Abhinetri, Do Aankhen, Baaton Baaton Mein, Kaminey, and Gudgudee, to name a few. Deb's funeral was held at the Pawan Hans Crematorium at 4 pm on March 14, 2025. Reportedly, Deb's extended family members like Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja, Tanisha, and Aditya Chopra attended the funeral. Apart from Ranbir, Alia, Hrithik Roshan, Sidharth Malhotra, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh also attended the funeral.

Deb Mukherjee was twice married

To speak about Deb Mukherjee's personal life, he got married twice. His daughter, Sunita from his first marriage, married director, Ashutosh Gowariker. On the other hand, Ayan is Deb's son from his second marriage. He was born in 1941 in Kanpur and came from a successful and illustrious film family. His mom, Satidevi, was the sister of Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. Actor, Joy Mukherjee, filmmaker, Shomu Mukherjee were Deb's brothers. Shomu married Bollywood actress, Tanuja, and Deb's nieces are Kajol and Rani Mukerji.

To speak about Ranbir, who paid the most beautiful tribute to  Deb, on the professional front, he was last seen in Animal, which Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed. He is currently working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s, Love and War and has many projects like Animal Park and Nitesh Tiwari's, Ramayana in the pipeline.
