In a recent interview with NDTV, Ranbir Kapoor opened up about the void that his father, Rishi Kapoor's demise left in their lives. He mentioned that after watching Sharmaji Namkeen, his uncle, Randhir asked him to call Rishi Kapoor so that he could praise him. Even though it has almost been two years since Rishi Kapoor had died of cancer, his doting brother, Randhir does not seem to overcome the grief. Moreover, Ranbir Kapoor revealed the reason behind Randhir's shocking reaction. He said his uncle is going through the early stage of dementia. In his words:
"My uncle Randhir Kapoor, who is going through an early stage of dementia, and he came to me after the film, said, 'Tell dad that he is amazing, and where is he, let's call him'. Art crosses boundaries of medical conditions… And a good piece of storytelling really embodies that."
In a 2021 interview with The Times Of India, Randhir Kapoor had bared his heart and shared how difficult the past years had been for him. In the span of two and a half years, the Housefull 2 actor had lost his lovely mother, Krishna Kapoor and two dearest siblings, Rajiv Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. He could be quoted as saying:
"The last year has been a very sad time in my life. Sad is really a modest word here; worst would be apt. In a matter of 10 months, I lost both my darling brothers- Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) and Chimpu (Rajiv Kapoor). Also, I lost my mother (Krishna Kapoor) and sister (Ritu Nanda) in the last two-and-a-half years."

Further in the interview, Randhir had shared some stories about the unmatchable bond between the Kapoor brothers and sisters. He had lovingly recalled the fond memories and had said that the trio of brothers, Rishi, Rajiv and Randhir did not need anybody else when together. Randhir had stated:
"We, my three brothers and two sisters, were extremely close to each other. Chintu, Chimpu, and I interacted with each other every day. Chimpu lived with me and Chintu either came to the office on the days that he wasn't shooting or spoke to me on the phone. We didn't need anybody when we three were together. We were a very happy circus by ourselves. We were a robust crowd! All that is over. There's not a single day that I don't think about them. One year may have passed but there's not a single day that I don't think about them. Life will never be the same again."
Earlier, in a video message, Ranbir Kapoor had urged his fans to watch his father's last film and had shared a whelming heart story behind the making of the film. He had also shared that the makers had even thought of taking him to complete the film using VFX or prosthetics. He had revealed:
"I'm here to share something that makes Sharmaji Namkeen a very special film. This film isn't special for me just because it's papa's last film but papa really believed in the story. I remember when he fell sick in the middle of the shoot, he somehow wanted to complete the shoot, but life had other plans. We thought of trying VFX or I could wear prosthetics and complete the role but nothing was working out. It was a tough time for all of us."
We pray for Randhir Kapoor's quick recovery from dementia. And, are you also excited to watch Sharmaji Namkeen? Let us know!
