Yash Chopra is hailed as one of the most talented filmmakers of all time. He brought a whole new perspective to movies with his progressive thinking, as he always believed in experimenting with modern ideas. However, Yash died in 2012, and his last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was released shortly after his death. Yash’s son, Aditya Chopra, who is also a popular filmmaker, tied the knot with Rani Mukerji in 2014. The duo welcomed their daughter, Adira, in 2015.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Rani Mukerji opened up about working with her late father-in-law, Yash Chopra, on the sets of the film, Veer Zaara. For the unversed, the actress played the role of a lawyer in the film, while Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta were the leads. Talking about the same, Rani revealed that it was a completely surreal moment for her as she always admired Yash Chopra. In her words:

“Working with Yash Chopra was a completely surreal moment for me in my life because he is a director who I really admired and then I watched him on set and he was really childlike. When he directed Veer-Zaara, I’m sure he must have been in his 70s but he was the youngest man on set.”

Rani Mukerji also revealed that she was surprised to see Yash Chopra's love for food and shared that the latter was as passionate about food as he loved films. The actress added that during the making of Veer Zaara, the filmmaker would not only discuss shots but also food. She said:
“The way he used to show his passion for cinema, he was equally passionate about food and I love the way that he gave importance to food. So every day after we discussed the scene of the day, the discussion was what is there for nashta (breakfast) and I think that was very very shocking to me because I saw a man and I realized people who love food are really passionate.”
Elaborating more about it, Rani Mukerji shared that she could completely relate with Yash Chopra, as she herself belonged to a Bengali family and was passionate about food. However, seeing Yash Chopra's love for food, she realised that the latter didn't take himself seriously. In her words:
“I completely related with that because I’m from a Bengali family and we are all about food all the time. We only talking about food and here I meet a Punjabi filmmaker who’s also obsessed with food and I think that really got me going that here’s a man who is Mr Yash Chopra who does not take himself so seriously you know.”

Talking about Yash Chopra's professionalism, Rani shared that being the youngest man on set, the filmmaker was very nonchalant. He never got serious about getting the best shot out of the actors and instead always tried to put them at ease when they were shooting. Revealing how Yash inspired her, Rani said:
“He is on set, he’s the youngest man on set and he is very nonchalant. So it is not as if he is trying to get the best shot out of you so he’s serious or anything. He’s absolutely normal, not taking himself too seriously and I think that is what really inspired me about that man and I said maybe because of this, his actors are so so much at ease when they are shooting."
