Rani Mukerji is one of the most renowned names in Indian cinema. The actress, who made her screen debut in the 1996 Bengali film, Biyer Phool, is the daughter of former film director, Ram Mukherjee and playback singer, Krishna Mukherjee. Rani is the cousin of actress, Kajol and filmmaker, Ayan Mukerji.
Even after being born into a star family, Rani never aspired to be an actress. In her first leading role, Rani played the role of a rape victim in the film, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat and received huge applause for her acting. After her debut film, Rani went on to star in films like Ghulam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Black and proved that acting is in her genes.

In 2014, Rani Mukerji tied the knot with the scion of the YRF banner, Aditya Chopra. Aditya and Rani's relationship was not love at first sight but was characterised by a deep respect for each other. In December 2015, they had become proud parents of a baby girl, whom they named Adira Chopra.
Once in an interview with a leading daily, Rani Mukerji talked about her wish to have another child. Rani, who was 39 at that time, revealed that she should have started a family a long time. In her words:
“I can't have a huge family as I think I have missed the bus. I should have started a long time ago. But I can always try for a second child.”

Coming back to Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra's love story, it was after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, when Aditya Chopra rose to prominence as an independent director. Rani had once encountered Aditya at the Sampan Hotel in Mumbai, but to his surprise, the then-young starlet did not pursue him, vying for a role. Impressed by this and her performance in the films she had done before, Aditya recommended Rani to Karan Johar for his film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
When the news of Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji’s relationship hit the headlines, netizens didn’t take it happily as Aditya just came out of his divorce from his ex-wife, Payal Khanna. Many thought that it was because of Rani that Aditya broke his marriage and also called her a home breaker.
Rani, who rarely speaks about her personal life, talked about her husband, Aditya Chopra, for the first time in 2014. In an interview with The Times of India, Rani revealed that it was Aditya, who had expressed his feelings for her first and for their first date, he went to her home and asked her out in front of her parents.
Rani Mukerji took a break from acting for four years after the birth of her daughter, Adira and it was only after being persuaded by her husband, Aditya Chopra, she returned to acting.
