Ustad Rashid Khan is no longer with us, and the heartbreaking news has saddened billions of people across the globe. He was considered as one of the greatest musicians in the rich history of Hindustani classical music. As per the early reports, Rashid Khan was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata when he took his last breath. If the hospital sources are to be believed, the iconic classical musician suffered a severe stroke on November 21, 2023, and since then, he has been battling multiple health issues.
Not only this, it was in December 2023 when Ustad Rashid Khan's health started deteriorating after a cerebral attack. The list of his health problems doesn't end here, as he also had prostate cancer. As per the hospital sources, Rashid Khan battled against the illness quite bravely, but soon, the infection started spreading throughout his body, leading to his death eventually in the early hours of January 9, 2024.

A few minutes ago, popular singer and one of Ustad Rashid Khan's biggest admirers, Adnan Sami took to his Instagram handle and confirmed the news of music maestro's untimely demise.
The singer posted a picture of Rashid Khan in which he can be seen wearing a maroon-hued kurta. In the caption of his post, Adnan Sami admitted that he was totally devastated after hearing about his sudden death. Further in his note, Adnan Sami admitted that the passing of his friend is a huge loss for India's classical music as he was a 'genius musician' and a 'beautiful friend'. Sharing his condolences, the singer penned:
"I can't believe this news! I'm so shocked & speechless… What a huge loss!! A genius musician & a beautiful friend… My deepest heartfelt condolences to his beloved family … May Allah SWT bless himin Jannat-ul-Firdaus...Ameen.#rashidkhan #adnansami."

The honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee also reacted to disheartening news of Ustad Rashid Khan's untimely demise at the age of 55. The politician took to her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle and penned a note in which she admitted that it's a massive loss for the country as she admitted that he was one of the greatest Hindustani classical singers ever.
From labelling him as an 'unparalleled genius' to sharing her deepest condolences for his wife, Soha and son, Armaan, Mamata Banerjee remembered Rashid Khan's illustrious career. An excerpt from her tweet can be read as:
"I heard about his death. This is a great loss for the entire country and the entire music fraternity. I am in a lot of pain as I still can't believe that Rashid Khan is no more."

Fort he unversed, Ustad Rashid Khan was the great-grandson of India's legendary classical music vocalist, Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan. Inayat Hussain founded Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana in 1849, and no wonder the demise of his great-grandson, Rashid Khan is indeed a massive blow for the famous Gharana. The iconic classical musician, Ustad Rashid Khan was also bestowed with prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, which clearly speaks volumes about his legacy.
Our deepest condolences are with Ustad Rashid Khan's family and loved ones in this moment of great pain.
