Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 2023 film, Animal, has received as much criticism as praise. Many of these critics found fault in the movie's depiction of female characters and the way they were treated by the protagonist, 'Ranvijay', played by Ranbir Kapoor. However, despite these criticisms, Rashmika Mandanna, the lead actress of the film has defended the storyline often. Recently, the actress said that she would accept and change someone like 'Ranvijay' in her real life. Netizens have not taken this statement lightly and have been bashing Rashmika.
Rashmika Mandanna has grabbed quite a lot of headlines with her recent comments defending the controversial film, Animal. Recently, in a chat with Mojo Story, Rashmika was asked if she would accept someone like 'Ranvijay' in real life. The actress said that if you love someone and the other person also loves you, then changes will happen. To note, Ranbir Kapoor's character in Animal cheated on Rashmika Mandanna's character and on-screen wife, 'Geetanjali'. Additionally, the character was also accused of being disrespectful and abusive towards other female characters. Rashmika said in the interview:
“I truly believe that if you love someone and someone loves you, the changes will happen.”
When the audience objected to her statement and said that no one changes in real life and it was a 'young and romantic idea', the actress defended her statement. The actress talked about growing up with a partner, forming a personality and figuring out likes and dislikes. However, the live audience of the chat show still did not agree with her and said that no one changes. Rashmika was quoted as saying:
“I said that statement is because like example when you grow up with your partner or someone from a younger age, you're still forming a personality. You still are figuring out what you like and what you don't like. And when you grow up together, like suddenly when, like when you remember, you know, your best friend or your partner being a certain way, you know, back in that maybe a decade earlier, suddenly to the person who they are today.”
One Reddit user called her, "National 'Pick Me' Crush". Other netizens trolled her and said that women are not responsible for changing or fixing anyone. A user penned down, "What world is she living in? Only to defend her mere character you can’t sit there and make such statements. Women are not RESPONSIBLE to fix anyone. You CAN NOT fix anyone. All these years we’re only trying to unlearn all the crap that’s been taught and that we’ve seen only for some stupid ass celebrity to be a pick me? Do better maam and get out of that bubble".
