Ratan Tata’s sudden death on October 9, 2024, shattered many, and the entire nation mourned his loss. However, it was his 28-year-old best friend, Shantanu Naidu, who was left devastated. The duo's friendship turned heads when Ratan Tata celebrated his 84th birthday with Shantanu. Ever since Ratan Tata’s death, all the eyes were on the future of his young assistant, Shantanu Naidu.
Now, it seems like life has come full circle for Shantanu, who recently acquired the position of General Manager at Tata Motors. Taking to his LinkedIn account, Shantanu shared his excitement about his new role at Tata Motors and wrote:
“I'm happy to share that I'm starting a new position as General Manager, Head - Strategic Initiatives at Tata Motors! I remember when my father used to walk home from the Tata Motors plant in his white shirt and navy pants, and I would wait for him in the window. It comes full circle now."
For the uninitiated, Shantanu Naidu worked as Ratan Tata's personal assistant and general manager of the Tata Trusts. Shantanu’s association with Ratan Tata was more than professional, and they shared a great personal bond. As per multiple reports, the industrialist named Shantanu in his will and also waived his educational loan. Ratan Tata also relinquished his stake in Shantanu’s venture, Goodfellows.
After the death of Ratan Tata, Shantanu Naidu penned an emotional note for the business tycoon. Posting a picture with him, Shantanu referred to Ratan Tata as his 'lighthouse' and admitted that he would spend the rest of his life trying to fill the void created after his demise. His note could be read as:
"The hole that this friendship has now left with me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to fill. Grief is the price to pay for love. Goodbye, my dear lighthouse."
Shantanu Naidu, who hails from Pune, attained a degree in engineering from the prestigious Savitribai Phule Pune University. After completing his graduation, Shantanu took admission to Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, where he completed a master's degree in business administration. Once Shantanu finished his professional education, he got a job at Tata Elxsi.

He started an initiative, Motopaws, which works for the betterment of dogs. The youngster also launched a program named Goodfellows, which is designed to help elderly people. Shantanu has also penned a book titled, I Came Upon a Lighthouse, based on his conversations with Ratan Tata.
