Raveena Tandon recalls keeping away from the limelight after the birth of her children

In an interaction with Barkha Dutt, Raveena Tandon retrospected some key years of her career, when she voluntarily chose to step away from the limelight. Talking about the reason for the same, she revealed that back in those days, actresses were easily criticised for gaining weight after giving birth to their children. Raveena specifically highlighted the case of her colleague and actress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and exclaimed how she got scared by the brutal criticism the latter got. In her words:

“Those were the days where they’d body shame you. Do you remember how they got after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she didn’t lose weight after the baby? I didn’t want that to happen to me, and that’s why I was completely out of the public eye.”

Raveena Tandon remembers supporting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan against all the body-shaming

Moving forth in the conversation, Raveena Tandon recalled the time when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was facing a lot of criticism and body-shaming comments from the world at large due to her changed body shape after she gave birth to her daughter, Aaradhya. Raveena added that she supported the former and even wrote an open letter, shutting down merciless negativity for Aishwarya. Raveena narrated:

“I said, ‘It’s her decision, it’s her life, it’s her baby. It’s her decision when she wants to get back to work. So, let her be, let her take this break’. Because that’s exactly what I did. I wanted to eat everything under the sun, after being disciplined for all those years, living on local snacks and makhanas. I wanted to go crazy, and I did.”

Raveena commented on cutthroat rivalry in Bollywood which hampers personal relationships

Earlier, while speaking to Rajshri Unplugged, Raveena Tandon critiqued the current norms prevalent in the film industry, where cutthroat rivalry between actors is normalised. She compared it with her own times, and remarked that artists back shared a fun equation and the atmosphere on film sets used to be happy and informal. However, talking about the current situations, Raveena stated that people nowadays are so knee-deep and keen on rivalry that they can even keep at stake their personal relationships, vis-a-vis through their boyfriends and girlfriends.

When Raveena revealed she used to starve herself in fear of body-shaming comments

Previously, in an interaction with Zoom, Raveena Tandon spoke about the amount of body-shaming comments and criticism she had to deal back in her younger days, as an actress in the 90s. She mentioned that the real fear was of obnoxious gossip columnists, who could write absolutely anything. In her words:

“There was a lot of body shaming, and I’ll be very honest, the body shaming was not from the industry. Everyone very easily blames the film industry, but the film industry was the one that gave me chances. The media was body-shaming us. Editors who were women were busy slut-shaming heroines, trying to prove how nasty they’re or trying to question anyone’s body, face, or hair, and they were like, ‘Oh my God, look at her thunder thighs and Amazonian body frame’. These were the terms that the actresses were called at that time. It was sad at that time.”
