Both Jaya Bachchan and Rekha stood up in their seats and acknowledged the accolade. They were smiling ear to ear and beaming with happiness. However, Rekha's spontaneous reaction caught everyone off guard. She was seated at a distance and ran towards Jaya, embracing her in a warm hug. This unexpected hug was a sight to behold, and it symbolised a gesture of reconciliation between the two actresses.

Once, in a candid interview with Simi Garewal in 2004, Rekha openly talked about her feelings for Amitabh Bachchan. When the host asked Rekha if she was ever in love with the actor, she replied in affirmation. She further described her emotions with passion and said that she had yet to come across a single man, woman, or child who could not fall desperately and hopelessly in love with Amitabh. However, Rekha also put an end to years of rumours and clarified that despite her feelings, she and Amitabh were never in a personal relationship.

Once, in a throwback interview with Stardust, Rekha recalled an incident when she saw Jaya crying while watching the love scenes between the former and Amitabh in the film, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Narrating the whole incident, Rekha revealed that she was looking at the Bachchan family through the projection room and noticed a stream of tears pouring down Jaya’s face during the film's trial show. After a week, Rekha was told by her industry friends that Amitabh would no longer work with her. When she confronted Mr Bachchan about the same, he didn’t say a word.
